    bay area storm watch

    hi fellow bay areans,

hope you guys all made it thru the crazy weather we had today. the winds were crazy and knocked down several trees but other than that everything is intact. glad there was no power outage at my home. brace yourselves for the weekend as well. i hear sunday will be heavy but not as bad as today. to those unfamiliar with bay area weather, it is usually pleasant and mild around here so whenever something out of the ordinary happens, it usually becomes a big deal!!

we've had a few strong gusts of wind, but nothing as bad as what we had in early Dec. We did lose a small dead tree that blocked the driveway, but no damage. We didn't even get a small power bump.

I stayed in my house all day and barely noticed the weather outside.

DOH! I MUST start taking the weather reports seriously. I knew it was going to rain, but the hurricane winds caught be by surprise as I was biking to work in the morning. Riding with the rain gear is usually kind of a fun adventure, but being blown into traffic sucked.

I think it is funny how people view weather in different parts of the country. In southern California, they have news flashes if it starts to drizzle. Here in south Louisiana, heavy rains and high winds is a normal day to day occurrence in the summer. There may or may not have been a tornado touch down about half way between my house and ABMAC's house last week. My Christmas decorations outside were blown down and across the street.

I know San Fransisco area usually has pretty mild weather, so a drastic change in the weather is pretty rare. We can go from 25 degree weather two nights ago, to 70 degrees and sunny today. Drastic changes in weather here is normal and we don't think twice about it.

I wasn't feeling too well today, so I've been in bed. But lemme tell ya, when this giant BOOOMING thunder shook the back half of my house (where my bedroom is), I got up in a hurry to check on my mom and my visiting guinea pigs. And I thought for sure the vibration would knock over a few of my toys, but it didn't.

I heard the winds in the Bay area were worse than a cat 5 Hurricane.

                            Exactly.

The Loma Prieta earthquake was NO fun.

50 dead in a couple of seconds:

Sure California doesn't get hurricanes, tornados, etc...but we do get nasty earthquakes, and one day we'll get the mother of all earthquakes, I hope not in the near future though.

Electricity was knocked out of our house at 12:30 PM, and when I got home from work there was still no electricity. We could not heat the house, so we fired up the gas fireplace and I slept on the floor in front of the fireplace on the floor with the kids. Hubby slept on the couch (smart guy). When you're this old, where the floor touches your bones, it hurts. We did not have power until 10 AM. I was going nuts--no internet, no forced-air heat, and the candles were too far away from the fireplace to be able to knit. I was cold and miserable. We went to bed at 9 PM (Unheard of!--I am a night owl and get most of my customizing done when the kids are asleep)...Glad the power is back on now. Don't know how people survived without electricity.
