Now we can print a Mego

So I was catching up on the news and saw this article.

Machines Creating Machines | This Could Be Big - Yahoo! News

It appears that for under $2k a person could now print mego body parts, accessories, and even play sets. Cool Stuff!

      Yes, it will!
I've been trying to get others to help invest in one of these. I'm down for the investment. Digital 3d scanners are pretty cheap also. Scan, print, instant custom. Heads printed in two colors! Skin and hair colored when it gets made, only leaving the eyes to be painted. The materials are cheap enough to make lots of neat armor and accessories. Scan something at 1:1 and print at 1:9. Hello new world of custom helmets and weapons. I'd scan a Mego and print it out at two feet tall!

I think this is the system LaserMego uses to do his Ironman suits. I picked one up at the Meet and love it. There are a number of really interesting articles on the system. The Rep Rap can be built for far less than $2000, and there are some complete kits available on ebay. Very cool stuff. I've considered building one myself.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

I have an earlier model of the Replicator called Cupcake. The surface detail is a bit rough, but its getting better every year. There are also services like Shapeways that will produce a high quality 3D print.

I've been seeing the progress of these printers and they are getting bigger.
They getting much better and as for doll parts they would still require sanding to smooth. Much safer than dealing fumes at this point.

I am definitely going to get a machine like this at some point and time. I am just waiting for all of the bugs to be worked out right now before I dive in and get my feet wet.
