Don Corneilus Takes His Own Life

The creator and host of Soul Train, Don Corneilus, has apparently shot himself in his Sherman Oaks home near LA. I don't much about it yet, but I do know he had been suffering from several health issues for a while now.

Soul Train was a Saturday morning staple growing up in West Philly. Even more than American Bandstand. We even had a play in our touch football games called the "Soul Train" and one player was designated the Don Corneilus. Today, there's a cable station that runs Soul Train reruns on Saturday and I love when they repeat one from the 70's. Aside from some cool tunes, its a blast to check out the hair and fashion from back in the day.

Man that is so sad. I grew on Soul Train too. And in my area, you couldn't go to a party w/o people lining up and making a "Soul Train". Such an iconic show for black people. You will be missed Don.

Very sad. "Soul Train" brings up good memories of my late dad. He watched that show every Saturday and I loved the music and soul train line as well.

What a show and was on for many years. Always liked his distinct voice and the opening for the show was unforgettable. Those were the days...

I seen that on the news today. That is truly sad news. The show was definitely iconic. My Mother watched it all the time. I can still remember hearing the intro "Souuuuuuuul Train". That was so cool. RIP Don.
