    Microwave Oven's..

Since my post about VCR's I though it might be interesting to hear stories about your first microwave oven.
My parents got one in 82 and that thing was huge! Kind of like our first VCR that thing lasted for 20 + years. I know it probably cost them and arm and a leg when we got it. Today everyone has one but back then we were the first in our neighborhood to have one.

My parents never bought one, heck they still use a toaster oven today. I didn't get my first Microwave till my first year of college.

My Gram got one in 80 or 81 when we moved up to NY from GA. I was amazed by it. My Gram got a bunch of cookbooks and all of the microwave dishes. We cooked a lot of different things. As everyone knows the microwave is not for cooking IMO. But it was really fun experimenting with it.

We got one when I was in college I think. I think even when we did have one, we didn't use it much. My mom made everything from scratch.

We refused to get one until...1998 and probably used it only to disinfect baby bottles...but now we use a microwave oven daily and can't imagine life without it.

Man, I can't even remember back when we got the first magical microwave.

I DO remember I was entirely positive that I would die at an early age from cancer , but was IMMEDIATELY hooked on the speed. Plus then I could actually cook things myself! Sort of.

Even still, I get EXTREMELY impatient when my coffee takes a full 60 seconds to heat up. I often anxiously yank it out early and drink lukewarm coffee.

And I get extremely put out if I have to cook something on the stove or in oven. GAH!!
....and then the smoke detector starts up. SHUT UP!!

The microwave doesn't smoke. errrr... 'cept when I put something in with gold leaf once. WHOOPS.

My mom used to cook everything from scratch with a regular stove.

She refused to use (or have) a microwave to the day she died.

She always said "someday they're going to find out microwave ovens gives people cancer"
