I understand that there is so much worse that has and will go on in the world, but thank you for letting me get my thoughts out.
Even at the end i still called him "Puppy Dog." He was an American Cocker Spaniel and my best friend and I miss him so much already. Got home an hour ago and I cannot go to sleep. He had a wonderful life and I'm happy for that, but 16+ years seems so short now. My wife and I had just been married, we went to the mall to get a floor lamp at JC Penny and came home with a puppy instead. He was my first dog ever, while my wife had grown up with an English Cocker named O. Henry in the 70s & 80s. In 1995, this little puppy in the window caught our eye and when we found out that he was born on July 31st (The same birthday as the original Henry) we knew we had to bring him home. And we named him Henry in honor of the shared birth date. My favorite moment with him was many years ago before my wife and I had kids. Just he and I were out for a walk on a cloudy day and were on the walking path by our house. One of those driving rains that you can see roll across to you headed right at us. Like out of a movie, we both seemed to stop at do a double-take to each other, I yelled "run!" and we both turned and ran towards home getting soaked, but I remember he was happy. The communication I saw in his eyes will be with me forever. Good night, pup-pup.
