Academy Award nominees for Visual effects

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2"
Tim Burke, David Vickery, Greg Butler and John Richardson
    "Hugo"
Rob Legato, Joss Williams, Ben Grossman and Alex Henning
    "Real Steel"
Erik Nash, John Rosengrant, Dan Taylor and Swen Gillberg
"Rise of the Planet of the Apes"
Joe Letteri, Dan Lemmon, R. Christopher White and Daniel Barrett
    "Transformers: Dark of the Moon"
Scott Farrar, Scott Benza, Matthew Butler and John Frazier

Personally I think "Rise" should be a lock.

"Real Steel" was a surprisingly good movie, with some flawless effects. They weren't overly showy, but if they had failed, the movie would have fallen apart. You had to totally believe the world created. They did a fine job.

If "RISE" gets shafted for THIS Academy Award, then it will be as much a crime as Spielberg getting shafted for "Saving Private Ryan" as Best Picture whenever that was. Hopefully, "RISE" will take it, but I have a feeling it's fiercest competitors will be "Harry Potter" (which could get the "last movie in a series" vote) and "Hugo" which will likely get votes because it's a product wrought under the direction of Hollywood legend Martin Scorsese....
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

A couple years ago the Academy made a voting adjustment that allowed for up to 10 films to be nominated for Best Pic..

I hope Gary Oldman wins Best Actor...unbelievably, it's his first ever nomination...a great actor like that deserves to be recognized.

No film that receives less than 5% of the total Academy vote can be nominated, so apparently this year only nine films fit that bill.

Ah - okay. Makes sense. Some of these must be pretty low though, I'd imagine.

This list is especially bland this year. No surprises - nothing I was excited by. Oh well.

                            Moneyball? Really?

I found this to be a very uneven and joyless film filled with characters you neither like. or care about. Very disappointing. Of course a movie about Billy Beane would be bland since dude never won crap. This comes from a baseball Guy too, I thought the film was a shade above awful.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

Just saw Moneyball last weekend. Liked it more than most films I see, but I agree it was flat in spots. My typical Aaron Sorkin film reaction.. mostly positive, but always seem to come away vaguely disappointed.
