    *** was that!?!?!?!

Ok this is no joke guys.

I was outside working on getting my Explorer running again when I looked up in the sky and saw this large light moving across the sky. At first I thought I was seeing a meteor because it had a tail of fire and sparks.
I screamed for the wife and she came out and we watched it move across the sky. The tail disappeared and the light got bigger and brighter and it leveled off and slowly (slower then an aircraft) moved across the sky. I told the wife to get the camera and she did.
I took the photo just as this thing BOLTED quicker then anything I have ever seen in my life and this is what I captured.....

I am not saying what it was or could be. I am not outside searching for aliens and have nothing to gain for making up stories. I will let you be the judge.

I know what it was not and it was not a meteor because when I first saw it, it came up from the horizon and climbed diagnonally and then leveled off before it made it's way across the sky.
I know it was not a plane because it was close and there were no flashing lights and it was moving slower then an aircraft. And of course as fast as it took off, there is no aircraft that moves that fast.

I do not know guys but I am interested to know if anyone else will report this here in Florida!?

    Any ideas?

The only thing I can think of is Nasa sent something up and kept it quiet because it did show up in the N.E.
      Who knows!?

Fascinating! I have NO IDEA. But I imagine it's military in purpose.

I'm guessing it could have been Russia's Phobos-Grunt Mars probe that's supposed to be re-entering our atmosphere.

EDIT: Apparently, it re-entered about four days ago. So...beats me!

Shoot, you took my weather balloon answer, so I'll just have to settle for sun spots...oh wait....it was at night, darn it.

Ok. Why wasn't I informed Haley's Comet was coming back early?? I could have gone and hung out with Uhura's brother.....

On a serious note, I dunno what it is. I am the skeptic, so I believe it is explainable however.

Cool experience, but I'm also in the camp that thinks there's a very logical explanation.

One thing to keep in mind is that scale is very hard to judge against the sky. Often, it's very easy to think bigger and further - but it's very easy to mix that up with something smaller and closer.

Obviously I can only guess, but can you rule out something like a flare or a miniature rocket? There's probably other things like that too - people shoot a lot of stuff into the sky.

Was the sky clear? Any signs of electrical storm?

Maybe it could have been a weird electromagnetic phenomena - something like ball lightning. It's rare, but if you live in an area that's exposed to a lot of lightning it might make sense that your chances of seeing something weird like that would increase.

"In the US, Central Florida sees more lightning than any other area."
                          Lightning

"Ball lightning is an unexplained atmospheric electrical phenomenon. The term refers to reports of luminous, usually spherical objects which vary from pea-sized to several metres in diameter. It is usually associated with thunderstorms, but lasts considerably longer than the split-second flash of a lightning bolt."

What time was it? This article says the launch was at 7:38 p.m.

What direction did you see it moving in?

Florida was as clear as a bell last night, so it was not lightning. Creepy.
