I was neither a geek or jock in school...I was the best of both worlds, I played high school football and hung out with the jocks. But I also was member of the sci-fi and chess clubs, and hung out with the geeks.

Even today, I'm the same...can get geeky with the geekiest of friends, and talk superheroes and toys all day long. But I can also get into jock mode, and talk boxing and football all day long as well...

I think collectors live in a more expressive manner than most have the courage to. I'm not remotely concerned with how someone may view my hobby. I don't seek approval. I seek enjoyment and pleasure. And this hobby has brought more joy AND good people my way than any other venture I have taken thus far. I consider myself amongst the privileged. And I never take it for granted. Geeks assemble!
I'm telling ya man, you and I were separated at birth or something.

I proudly proclaim myself as a Mego Dork but in all actuality I'm just a guy who has been around long enough to know that if you don't enjoy what you do openly and freely your just wasting the finer things in life. Am I a geek? If you say so, sure. But as far as I'm concerned I'm just Jim... toy collector... writer... producer... goofball and all around fun loving fellow.

When I felt an overwhelming urge to "correct" this quote by adding an extra "o" to the first word.

I realized it last summer, when I brought in a stack of pictures of my kids to show off. In one picture, you could see my shelf full of Jakks Classic WWE guys. When someone at my office asked "Whose are these?" I realized.....my God, I'm a geek.

People called me "nerd" in H.S.--as an insult. Played D&D and read sci fi/fantasy... would always stop for Star Trek/Star War in college and after.

I wear it proudly now that I make a living from cornering the geek market here at the university.

I never fit in with any groups in high school. I was a child of many environments and worlds. I was all-state baseball, first chair saxophone and a pretty good dungeon master. At any given time my car trunk had a first basemens glove, an Alto sax and a D&D monster manual. I was always a loner outside of my gaming crew. I didn't become the outgoing social butterfly I am today until I accepted and wore my black belt in geekery.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

When a neighbor visited my house and upon seeing all the toys in my front room said with real shock, "oh my gosh...we didn't know you had a son."

I had to explain that they belonged not to an unknown 10 year old but to a 40 year old.

My wife was in the room crying with laughter.

I knew at that point I didn't just collect a few knick knacks. I was different. But I wouldn't change it for the world.
