    Vet Fees

Dont know what they charge elsewhere but here in the UK can be very expensive. Took 1 of my dogs down on the 23 Dec cost 80gbp for opening up plus another 100gbp for blood test and tablets, total 180 gbp I am hoping my insurance will pay out.
Phoned today now as she is getting worse and was told 250 gbp to have her put to sleep and a cremation.

We love our pets here and she was a rescue dog that I had 10 years ago also got a rescued cockatiel, 2 rescued cats and a Cocker Spaniel which we bought

What kind of fees do they charge elsewhere

Yes, Vet fees can be a bit steep these days. Some times almost more than human Doctor visits.

I just lost a prized cat about two months ago. I had spent up in the $1,000's of dollars to try and hold on to the fellow for as long as we could. He unfortunately was consumed by a very fast spreading cancer. After all of the treatments in the end there was just no saving him.

I did not even know cats were prone to cancer. The vet told me that this was very common for cats. That was news to me.

Do they have 1-800-PetMeds over in Europe? It's a lot cheaper than what you get at the vet.

Same brands and quality. WAY cheaper price.

There are also certain brands of insurance for pets that cover certain illnesses.

And I thought that MY doctor was expensive!

When I used to keep classroom guinea pigs, Montclair Pet Hospital wouldn't charge if it was a class pet. Unfortunately, some other doctors bought the place after the first doctor retired, and they charged normal pet fees. It got pretty steep.

        BTW...I'm sorry about your dog.

My stupid cat gets in fights and comes home with at least 3 infections a year. $200 a pop for the visit and anti-biotics. He needs to get a job.

Yeah sorry to hear your news.
Vets can be expensive but that does seem very high on all the charges. Unless the dog is a 130 lb rottie or something but even then 250 gbp seems high.

yeah, its nuts. Usually 120 for annual shots and "wellness" exam. On the bright side they didn't charge me for Rudy's euthanizing. We are going to start going back to the shot clinics where it runs about half that much. Do you have to get cremation? I took Rudy home and buried him next to Baron in our yard.

My parents have had 4 cats pass in the last year. All were old and lived a long life. The last one was at least 20 years old. For a cat thats crazy. She showed up at their house in 1991 and was fed some tuna and she never left. She was at least 6 months then. Anyway off topic....they all were like 25 bucks a piece to cremate...

                    Tell me about it.

Our doggie's teeth cleaning would always run up to $750...and he had several of those throughout his 16 years of life.

...and that was just teeth cleaning...I don't even want to get into medical issues...I could've bought another classic Mustang with that...lol.

Usually cost me around 150.00 for the annual check up and whatever shots the dog needs as well as heart worm pills for the year. sick visits can be expensive. when my German shepard got sick in 2010 and we ended up having to put him to sleep 3 days before christmas the cost for putting him to sleep and private cremation was like 225.00

Seems like the prices are roughly the same, wish I had trained as a vet now that seems the business to be in and is always needed

yeah, it seems that vets have tapped into that "oooh, my precious baby" mentality of some pet owners and now we all pay the price.

One of our 3 cats crapped on the floor 3 times the other morning and the last one looked to have a little blood in it- not normal for the cat- we took her to the cat-only vet, to pay $250 to be told she got a steroid shot for her asthma and that she was suffering from "stress"!!
