    Brach's pick a mix

I would imagine that a lot of you here remember seeing this in the grocery stores much like I do when we were younger. To my surprise I ran across one not long ago. I could not believe my eyes. It was like being a kid again. The only great thing missing would be seeing Mego's still on the pegs.

Has anyone else seen one of those Brach's pick a mix recently? Is Brach's starting to make a come back? I sure hope so. Their candy is awesome!

All the ones I remember seeing when I was a kid used the honor system to pay. There was a scale, you weighed it, bagged it, then stuffed your payment into the slot of a metal lock box. There was also a sign inviting customers to take one (sample) of free.

I can't imagine such a thing not being abused today.

I used to love those chewy white cubes that were speckled with bits and pieces of brightly colored candied fruit.

This modern day version was much the way you described it. I did not see a scale though, but it did have a small lock box on it.

Instead of being free though I think it was 2 pieces for a quarter. There again it was the honor system and I agree with you. I just cannot see that working like we the honest people would like it to. There are definitely going to be those that abuse it and that really sucks that they have to go and ruin for the others.

As a matter of fact those white jelly speckled cubes are my favorite as well. I got a bag full of goodies as I figured I may not see this again for another 30 years. I do sincerely hope that will not be the case and that it is here to stay this time.

I will try and get back by that store I found it at and get some pictures. Just for old time sake.

In the mean time perhaps these pictures will suffice.

              Enjoy!

Brach's has been in our local Fred Meyer stores for 35 years...since I was a kid. Never left. Love the Jelly Nougats!

That is awesome! For some reason they seemed to have disapeared around here until just recently when I ran across this one.

                      Fred Meyer knew what's up.

A few small local stores here have Pick-a-Mix, but I never give it second glance. As a child, as even yet as an adult, the only thing I like are the butterscotchies. I don't like any of the other candies.

I have no idea what this is-- Must be a middle of the country thing. Never saw it in NY or CA... Looks good though. Send me some with our next trade, D.
