    Anybody into paintball?

I know next to nothing about paintball guns, but I've found myself in need of a decent one. I have no idea what brands suck and which are good other than going by price. I want a medium quality gun, with decent power and effectiveness. I don't need high capacity, with a bunch of bells and whistles. Any thoughts or recommendations?

My son plays and uses a Tippmann 98 Custom. He loves it - these are the ones that the military use for training exercises. They are semi-auto and work great. You can get one online or on ebay.

The great thing about them is that you can buy TONS of accessories - you can even upgrade later and make it fully automatic, although I've read this feature doesn't work that well on them.

Don't settle for a cheap paintball gun you can get at Wal-mart. They clog up Nate and you will be P I S S E D in the middle of a game when you can't fire your gun and everyone is blasting you.

If there is a paintball field closeby, call them up and see what they say/recommend. They should know what would be a good gun to purchase.

I'm into paintball, I've owned everything from cheap one to $2000 Angels

D sorry to tell ya but Tippmans are kind of crappy, they're cheap and not bad for the money but they're really loud and hit hard, people hate playing against those and most of time won't even play with you if you have one

something decent and good for the money is smart parts, the Epiphany is a good gun that goes semi auto, 3 shot burst or full auto and it's fast

if you wanna go a little bit more then go with Dye

Adults and teenagers have different tastes. I can only tell you what he likes.

Teenagers LOVE to hit their prey hard...that's why he likes the Tippmann He's not into "finesse" paintball - he wants to bust someone's butt and make them remember he hit them. Again...he's 16 and he and his buddies love their Tippmans. They won't play with anything else - "baby guns" they call them.

Also, he and his buds don't play at public fields. They play on their own - about 10 of them.

I don't play and won't. Paintballs that don't bust HURT LIKE HELLLLLLLL!!!!!!

I remember doing paintball 20 years ago....maybe longer. The guns were crap and jammed most of the time, but I do remember they left welt marks when you were hit. A few days ago; I heard some parents talk about their kids shooting each other with airsoft guns...not the spring loaded pistol but CO2 action loaded guns. My younger son has one from a few years ago (the spring loaded pistol) and just shooting at targets with the plastic bb's; I was amazed at how powerful they were. I can't even imagine being hit by one of them in the more powerful guns or the paintball guns. I feel like I would need to wear a flak jacket to give me a false sense of security.

Actually, loud and hard hitting is kind of what I'm after. I've spent enough on the lead spitters. I don't want high maintenance, and I don't want to spend a fortune, but I don't want crap. I could easily spend the money if I was playing regularly, but this is going to serve another purpose. I need a non-lethal way to handle a non-human nuisance. I appreciate the comments. They look fun, and I've always kinda wanted one anyway.

the problem with tippmans is that they use co2 and that makes it super inaccurate, you can get a cheap spider with compressed air and be pretty hard hitting and Accurate , but i'd still go for the smart parts which is pretty cheap...look for one on craigslist
