    Blu Ray question

Does anybody have an all region/multi region Blu Ray player?
My old region free DVD player has died on me, and I'm looking for the easiest way to keep enjoying my collection.

I've heard of players where you need to log in a code everytime you want to play a region that's not your own, seems like a hassle to me...

I've found these guys, but to order a player from the other side of the globe...

Any UK members here who have made the leap to Blu Ray and play US discs (both DVD and Blu Rays discs)?

I had the issue in the U.S. with disc in PAL format. I decided to just watch it on my computer since it is the only one I own in this particular format.

Amazon.com has region free blu-ray players on its international sites.

Multi-region Blu-ray players aren't as common as multi-region DVD players, but they are out there. Actually I need one myself. Recently I almost ordered a couple Blu-rays from Amazon UK before I realized that none of my players can play Region B discs. Doh! I'm so used to not worrying about regions on DVDs that I forgot that I can't do that with Blu-rays, yet.

We have two PS3 units so that is what we play our DVDs and Blu Rays in. They do upscale regular DVDs and it does look better. They will play multi region games but not DVDs or Blu Rays. The link I put up looked like it showed a number of different players so at least you could get the model number(s) of ones that will play any region and see where you could buy them for the best price.

I didn't fully research it but this LG showed as being one of them as it plays Pal and NTSC and is available at Best Buy for about $120.

I don't get why the movie studios region specific their discs when region free players are available.....what's the point.

I stuck a code in my multi region dvd player and set it to play region 0 dvds, not a real hassle as it don't need changing again.Got me PS3 for blue-ray but i only got 1 blue-ray film.

I think it has something to do with various voltages used for electricity in various countries. I might be wrong on this but thought I read this was the main reason why various region settings became the standard.

I don't know enough about it myself but here is a pretty good read on it from Wikipedia.
