In my opinion the best political thinker of the 21st Century, Christopher Hitchens has succumbed to cancer at 62.

Wow - I haven't checked the news today yet and this is the first I'm hearing of this.

A friend of theirs once took Christopher Hitchens and his wife Carol Blue to dinner at Palm Beach’s Everglades Club, notorious for its exclusion of Jews.

“You will behave, won’t you?” Carol anxiously asked Christopher on the way into the club. No dice. When the headwaiter approached, Christopher demanded: “Do you have a kosher menu?”

I have heard about his controversial book, and it sounds brilliant, but I've seen this guy on TV and he always seemed pretty humorless and unhappy. Never cracked a smile or seemed to be enjoying himself.

He had a sense of humor - it was just EXTREMELY dry.

Definitely a unique voice. I always enjoyed hearing Hitchens debate or being interviewed.

Media is overrun with personalities that are easy to pin down, who have simple catch phrases to get their point across - it's more like ad campaigns then genuine dialog or debate. He's very clear about his stances - but he didn't talk down to his audience - and I appreciated that about him.

Well said. He was a breath of fresh air in any debate he entered. I didn't agree with everything he said but had to admire the way he presented his case. As political debate across the world seems to be dumbing down his is a voice that will be sorely missed.

He was definitely someone that lived on his own terms and didn't seem to be a slave to any particular wing. I didn't always see eye-to-eye with his perspective, but he seemed to care about truth. Because of the that, the world is a bit worse off without him.

Whether you agreed with him or not...he made you think.

I don't want to get into atheism vs religion...but all I will say...it's refreshing to see someone stick to his guns till the end...you gotta respect that.
