So whats everyone's oldest christmas decoration? Doesn't have to be one thing. My mother has saved alot since we were kids in the 70's however theres some stuff from her childhood to in there. Of course as much as stuff as she saved theres way more I wish she had saved. I really miss seeing those electric candles in the windows. Where I live no one does that anymore.

you know it is probably terrible to say, but when my mother gave us "our share" of the ornaments from growing up, we tossed most of them. they were junk, i had no sentimental attachment to them at all. the things I have nostalgia for she still has and I guess one day we will inherit. most of what my wife and I hav enow is memories we built together and that is all that really matters at this point.....we try to document what is each childs so someday they can have them.....and probably toss them too...LOL
and we put the electric candles in all the front and one side windows....it is a lot of things to have to go plug in though so most nights those do not get plugged inComment

My star that we had as long as I can remember, and my FTD toy soldier ornaments from when I was 7 that are really falling apart but they get put on the tree every year anyway.Last edited by HardyGirl; Dec 15, '11, 10:56 AM."Do you believe, you believe in magic?

My main tree has a mixture of both new and old ornaments. Some came from my grandparents and great-grandparents. Some came from yard sales. I even got a few back when I was still working for the local museum and they held a de-acquisition sale. And then there is my aluminum tree,....sigpicComment

I have an old light-up Santa face that was my grandparents that I still hang on the front of our house. We also have a foot-and-a-half tall light-up Santa made by Empire. I'm not sure of the date on him. I'm guessing he's from the late 50s, early 60s.
We have several old ornaments that came from my grandparents on down. When my grandmother passed away, each of us grandkids got quite a few things, since my grandparents were BIG into Christmas. My grandfather was a proto-Clark Griswold!

I'm just TICKED that all the new improved energy-efficient lights my wife is buying don't support the 'plug-in' geeky sound ornaments we all bought a decade ago, like the Trek ones.

You could always buy the old kind and hang them on book shelves or something, and use your ornament. I have to do that. The lights I use for my tree don't pop out either."Do you believe, you believe in magic?
