Tebow's quarterbacking skills aren't up to NFL standards, but what is up to NFL standards are his desire and ability to lead.
I've covered the Arkansas Razorbacks for 20 years and have seen many great players come in go through the SEC. I've seen more talented players and quarterbacks than Tebow, but he stood ou tbecause of those aforementioned qualities. Obviously Peyton Manning was a better pure quarterback in college, but he wasn't the leader that Tebow was and Tennessee didn't win like Florida did, either. Tennessee's national title came when Tee Martin was QB, not Manning.
I would have loved to have seen Arkansas' Darren McFadden, whom former coaches like Auburn's Pat Dye and Georgia's Vince Dooley compared to Herschel Walker and Bo Jackson, win the Heisman in 2007, but Tebow deserved it not just on production but also on his ability to bind his teammates together and produce victories.
There is no doubt that Denver's defense is the biggest contributor to the Broncos' winning streak, and John Fox and his staff have to be credited for crafting a thus far successful offense around their quarterback within the season. But I don't understand the hate towards Tebow.
No doubt the Broncos will run into a team that's going to score 24 or 21 or even 17 to beat them. It might be New England on Sunday. And when Denver does lose, the national pundits and everyone else who've been swallowing their tongues in recent weeks will spew forth with "I told ya's" like a case of explosive diarrhea.
And when it happens, watch how Tebow handles the situation and witness class and leadership.
People harp about character and wanting athletes to conduct themselves appropriately and be role models, but when they get what they ask for, all they try to do is tear him down.
I for one am enjoying every Denver victory and watching all the ESPN-parroting know-it-alls eat their words.
As mentioned the Broncos defense has been stellar and allowed them to hold teams to 13 points or less in 4 of their 6 wins. Von Miller is a beast too. Good pick at #2 in the draft. I still think Tebow stink as a passer. So I guess that automatically makes me a "hater" which I do not understand. He is a nice young man who conducts himself well and he is a good runner with the ball but at this point he has been pretty bad as a passer. You want to see your QB complete at least 60% of their passes and he is under 50%. But if people want to get caught up in Tebow mania that's fine. He is defiantly the flavor of the month in the NFL right now.
I knew the Bears season was over when Cutler went down. I am a big Cutler fan and maybe now others can see just how good he is. He helped mask a lot of deficiencies on the offense. And yet the Bears still should have won that game. I doubt Forte would have been stupid enough to run out of bounds late in the 4th nor would he have fumbled away the game like Barber did.
Laugh if you want but I thought the Bears had one of the best chances to possibly upset the Packers in the playoffs. They usually play Rodgers well and the offense was clicking with Cutler. They were averaging around 30 points a game before he was hurt. As everyone else has now seen Caleb Hanie stinks! My only hope now is that the Bears fire their GM as Angalo stinks at drafting in the first 4 rounds.
Nothing worse then watching a solid season go down the tubes once they lost their QB for the season.

Brad, Did you think Elway stunk too? Tebows stats are way better.
I don't remember seeing much of Elway as a rookie. And there are a number of rookie QBs that were bad their first season. Aikman went 0-11 in his first year as a starter yet is a HOF QB. Payton Manning didn't have the best rookie season either. I have also seen others have a good or even great start then fall off the face of the Earth. There are so many factors that go into a teams success. The best QB in the world can't play behind a garbage line. Brady has even looked bad when he has faced teams with a strong pass rush like the Giants in the SB a few years ago.
What I do see with Tebow is a QB that is under 50% accuracy and at times has a lengthy windup when passing. Both those points are not positives for an NFL QB. Accuracy and a quick release are important skills needed in order to be a successful passer in the NFL. College and the NFL are worlds apart and I think we have all seen great college players bomb in the NFL especially at the QB position.
That's not saying that Tebow won't correct those problems especially since he appears to be a hard worker but the fact still remains that right now he is not good at the passing aspect.
And I have seen this before. Kyle Orton went 11-5 as a rookie with the 2005 Bears. Great defense and running game is what powered that team. Sound familiar? I didn't think Orton was that great then either.
While it is a team sport the QB is still the most important position on the field. Look at what has happened to Indy this year without Manning. This is a fun, feel good story but unless Tebow improves greatly I don't see what others must see in him. Other then saying "he's a winner" or "he is a heck of a runner" what about Tebow that relates to an NFL QB makes you want to compare him to Elway? What do you see that makes you think he will be a great starter? I guess that's what puzzles me most.

For me it's just instinct.
Now, if he doesn't get some mechanics improvement, he will not progress beyond his current level. With a full offseason of work with trainers and coaches and with full knowledge he is the starter he will be given every opportunity. Integrity, humility and work effort quite often pay dividends.
I could be way off, but I really think he'll be solid for years, maybe not great. Hell, Trent Dilfer has a SB ring, so anything can happen.

Well that hes 7-1 doesn't throw many pics. The team loves him and raises there level of play for him. He's first on the field and the last to leave. Takes 0 credit for anything he accomplishes. I compare him to Elway because they are on the same team and Elway was terrible at the same point Tebow is at in his carrier. Evey week his stats get better.
And he left his big footprint on Urlachers back.
He took over a 1-4 team that was a Stanford scouting Andrew Luck, and traded away a top 7 receiver in Brandon Loyd, the week they gave him the job, and helped turn them into a possible playoff team. Despite the fact that the coach and Elway did everything they could do do derail him.
What are you going to say when Denver beats the Pats next week?
What I enjoy about Denver's success so far this season isn't so much Tebow but that the coaching staff determined what their strengths were as a defense and an offense and are making them work to win in what has become a somewhat unconventional manner in the NFL. It shows there's more than one way to skin a cat.
Some criticize Denver for running a "college" offense, but the point of the game is winning, not producing statistics or looking pretty.
Ask just about any offensive lineman which is easier run or pass blocking. Run blocking is physically more difficult. Mentally, it's about the same. Ask any defensive lineman if he had rather rush the passer or taking on blocks to free up linebackers.
Now, I doubt that Denver wants to continue playing as they are now forever, but again Fox and his staff should be applauded for finding a way to win.
As for Tebow, he reminds me of a Bart Starr-type QB, who counted on execution, toughness and leadership to win, and maybe he can develop into a Fran Tarkenton-type, using the short passing game and his legs to win.

You make good points and there is no denying that he has given the team a lift. He looks to be a very good leader which is important. And huge props to the coaching staff for adapting. Either Fox or McCarthy are coach of the year so far with Harbaugh in the mix too.
He can leave whatever he wants with Urlacher. He can also visit his bust in the HOF once Urlacher is done playing.
Now I don't know enough about the Broncos so I will take your word for it that Fox and Elway tried to derail him but look at it from their perspective. I'm sure watching him pass in practice is not pretty either and that is most likely what they were evaluating. Tebow's strengths in other areas have been what have helped him.
If Tebow can beat the Patriots, and it isn't all or mostly done by the Broncos defense, then I will say he has progressed quicker then I expected. If he plays like he did against the Bears then the Broncos will be too far behind in points for them to come back. Hanie stinks and the rest of the NFL has now seen this. That wasn't the same team it was with Cutler.
If Tebow can learn to make quicker reads, increase to at least 55% completion rate, speed up his release, and make a consistent 20 yard out completion, then he will be ready to really do some real damage in the league. Especially with his other skills and the defense playing well.
I hope the game against the Pats is aired here. I will be at the Bears game so I can DVR it. I want to see how Belichick schemes against Tebow. The Patriots give up THE most passing yards per game but overall hold teams to 21 points a game so they don't have a bad defense. If Tebow can play well and if the Broncos can get to Brady they have a good chance of winning.
