The Annual "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is B.S." Thread

Once again, the R&RHOF sucks IMO....This year's inductees include Guns 'N' Roses (1st time elligible), Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys, Laurie Nyro, Donovan, and The Small Faces.

They passed this year on Donna Summer (understandably), Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Heart, Rufus, War, The Cure and The Spinners....

And there's so many others that deserve to be in the Hall before GNR. I wonder who will show up to represent the band and perform

While I am a fan of old school Appetite for Destruction (One of the best albums of all time IMO, the rest? Not so much.) G-N-R I don't much care for the R-N-R Hall of Fame hooplah. But if you're struggling for interest (which IMO they are) what better way to get people to watch / attend than to have a giant cloud of mystery hanging over the playbill? Personally I'd like to see all the original members together for the honor since they are the reason for the induction. And then I would love to see Slash, Izzy, Steve and Duff smack Axel around for about five minutes. Not to injure him so much as to just give him a really hard time for being such an ******.

It's the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Shame...The list of those NOT in there is just as shocking as those who did make it. This organization takes more pride in who they exclude than who they showcase. I don't recognize them as a legitimate source for anything. Their essentially a hate organization. If that place burned down tomorrow, we would be better for it.

        R&RHOF is BS

It's basically a couple of rich people saying THEIR picks are better than anyone elses.

I have no idea why most rock stars play along with them

Who elected them and made them God ?

Just like the WWE Hall of Fame is a joke as well. They induct Drew Carey but not Bob Backlund or Randy Savage.

I am with you Anthony. G-N-R was never a fav of mine and I never got the appeal. I get Donovan and The Small Faces, but passing on the Spinners, Heart and War for GNR???

I occasionally stop on VH1 Classic's "That Metal Show" and watch a bit of it. A few weeks back Eddie Trunk went on a well-deserved tirade on the Hall of Fame. Pretty much sums up EVERYONE'S thoughts on this yearly debacle. I'm sure it's out on YouTube.

No mention of Monkees either.. I know back-story on that.., but it's still a stupid selection process.

Remember, Mickey was one of the first to use the Moog on records in '67, they introduced Jimi Hendrix to middle-America (all chanting 'we want Davy'..), and Frank Zappa in a prime-time appearance. Their breakage from their corporate beginings is still legendary.

I can see why the Monkee's are a problem

For the most part it's the "corporate Monkees" that should be inducted --- and technically the "corporate Monkees" are made of way more people than Mickey, Mike, Davy and Peter.

                    It would get very complicated...

But I'd think true reason would be their departure from the Kirshner 'hit-making machine', with Nesmith punching a hole in the wall when threatening their lawyers.

They could have stayed as bubble-gum robots, but they liberated themselves by exposing the corporate plastic-ness. And they had some super music.

Besides Sullivan, who else brought 'longhairs' into weekly mainstream TV...?

There's a LOT of other weirdness in the skewed Hall of Fame selection process.

I'm no huge KISS fan, but they have to be the most continuously popular band that has been overlooked the most. Heart is ridiculous, especially in a field so lacking in women (I'm talking true rock, not pop). The fact that Madonna got in before Heart is ridiculous.

It took them 10 years to induct Bob Seger, whose catalog gets about as much airplay as just about anyone over the last 40 years, across many different format stations.

I have nothing against these people, but imo I think they were let in because they were a particular judge's fancy ...
Most are basically 1 hit wonders with reputations larger than their musical accomplishments.

Yeah, RUSH is insanely overlooked. The list is mind-numbing of folks left out of the HOF. If they stuck to rock and made a real criteria for it, I think it would help weed some of this crap out.
