70's Powerlifting legend Vasily Alekseyev dies

So if you grew up in the 70's and watched Wide World of Sports you know who I'm Talking about Vasily Alekseyev was one of the Greatest powerlifters ever being undefeated 1970 to 1978, won two Olympic gold medals and 8 consecutive world titles.

I thought as a child he was Superman come to life....and would cheer him when watching lift weights that normal men could never dream of lifting........

I totally remember that guy. power lifting has come a long, long way since his hey day.
I watch Worlds Strongest Man all the time and the bodies on the power lifters has changed from huge bellies to 6-packs. Not to mention the guys in their early 40's are kicking the crap out of the 20-something lifters.

Yeah, this guy was a household name in the 70's. Vasiliy Alekseyev was the Olymics as far as I was concerned. The guy would eat 3 dozen eggs and a loaf of bread for breakfast. Even at the height of the cold war, all the boys I knew were pulling for him to win the gold.
