    Holiday animation!?!?!

The other day. I was clicking around the channels on TV and I saw an ad for some Ice Age Christmas special that is going to air on THANKSGIVING DAY!
Now I know it's become understood that most TV Execs and retailers see T-Day as just the start of the Christmas season. But what the heck happened to the actual Thanksgiving day Animated specials???
This year I missed the Halloween specials entirely. Were they even broadcasted? Did Linus see the Great Pumkin. I can tell you were I did find them. In the Pay Per View section of my on demand.

It seems to me, back in my youth, there was a few more Holiday specific TV specials out there. Does this mean that the only Animated specials we can look forward to will only be Christmas related???

Did the Star Wars Thanksgiving Day special ruin the day for all Non Christmas related specials???

Anyway... For those who remember, and can remember others. Be sure to add others if you can....

    "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving."
"A Mouse on the Mayflower." Was a nice little T-Day animated special recalling the pilgrim story through the narration of a mouse.

With the exception of food, Thanksgiving isn't a retail holiday, so it's pretty much ignored. I find this really annoying too. I think Thanksgiving is really important. Even though I will probably be going solo again this year, (I'm getting used to it), I do cook for myself and I am very thankful that I have a job, a nice place to live, clothes on my back, food in my belly, and I can do fun things like going on cruises.

I do sorta remember Mouse On The Mayflower. I know that in addition to the regular Charlie Brown special, ABC runs the ep w/ the Peanuts gang on the Mayflower as well. And b/c we see Santa at the end of the Thanksgiving day parade, this is supposed to usher in the start of the Christmas season. But take heart, some of us still love Turkey Day!

many of the Christmas cartoons get aired several times so showing it first at Thansgiving gives them an opportunity to air it a second time with all the commercials again

The Great Pumpkin aired the Thursday before Halloween along with an election-themed CB cartoon in a one-hour block.

I also saw an animated version of Ray Bradbury's Halloween Tree on a syndicated station, but that was about it for Halloween.

One of my favorite Halloween specials was Fat Albert's. The Christimas Fat Albert Special was one of my favorite's too, but it doesn't hold up as well.

There was a Little Rascals Christmas cartoon special that was fun, too. I don't think it is out on DVD, but I watched it on Youtube, last year.

Does anyone remember an animated Christmas special from the early to mid 1970s that dealt with Animals speaking at the birth of Christ? I remember seeing it as a really little kid, but never again.

It seems it the past we had Animated Specials for almost every Holiday. They reminded us children why we were celebrating that particular Holiday. So are the rest of these animated specials going to disappear. We had a good amount of trick or treaters this Halloween. But I could not find any TV Specials except for History Channels "History of Halloween."
Are they gonna change the name from Thanksgiving to Christmas Lite?
I know all the reasons why we're gonna get swamped with Christmas ONLY animated specials. I'm saying are all those great (NON Christmas) Holiday special going to disappear FOREVER???

Ps. Could the talking animal Christmas be Nestor, The long eared Donkey? (Rankin Bass)

That He-Man She-Ra Christmas thing is abysmal. I was at a friends party last year and they put it on to goof on and it was so bad, everyone tapped out.

I hate to drag this thread out... But as C-ghost points out here. Not all Christmas specials make the cut. Maybe its over-flooding the viewing market. Cant say. But this is another issue. SOme beloved Thanksgiving specials get canned while we get forced fed these Christmas nitemares.

As for the commercial topic. I'm sure you can fit as many toy ads in a Thanksgiving Day Cartoon special as you can a Christmas one.

                      Update

I should have posted this a week or so ago. During my trips to the the Thrift Stores, I've been doing a side search. Thanks to members here mentioning that some Holiday Specials did make it onto video. I've been keeping an eye out for them....
