Erik Larson's (Author of the true-crime, Chicago World's Fair serial killer book, Devil in the White City) "In the Garden of Beasts" ...
It's a proof copy I had lying about but just started getting into. Nonfic, deals with an American family (the father just stationed in Berlin as the American Ambassador) in Germany during the rise of Hitler's reign. It's interesting because you get a feel for how people of the day (both native Germans and foreign) experienced it without the hindsight. ...IE Before everyone knew what he was.

I'm deep into books about movies at this time.
I'm reading "Cabinet of Caligari-set design" now, focusing on early and unusual set designs from the 1910s to the 1960s (but mostly on 1910-1930).
Fascinating stuff, and useful, because I'm in my second year of a course on Theatre Directing...

Sounds interesting, Caligari had amazing set designs.

I've always got an eclectic pile of assorted books that struck my fancy at yard sales & flea markets, and I'm an habitual haunt at library book sales. Just finished a biography of William Wallace, The Johnstown Flood by David McCullough, and I'm currently reading 'Thank You, Jeeves!' by P.G. Wodehouse.
Next up will be a return to my favorite mystery series, Nero Wolfe by Rex Stout, I have one or two in the series yet to read. Hoping for Christmas someone gets me "Double Dexter' & Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor", those are on my wish list.
And by the way, although I have KOBO reader for my droid phone, I absolutely must have the printed book in hand. I need that tactile feeling and sense of ownership. Collecting books on an electronic device will never take the place of a beautifully stocked bookcase.

It's a good read; very funny in the appropriates spots, but I guess I'm so used to her writing style, I figured out the bad guy the minute he was introduced!

He was just too obnoxious to be anything BUT the bad guy.

Not going to give out any other spoilers, but I was expecting a bit more subtlety.

A Christmas Story is one of my favs to. I remember seeing it when it originally aired around '83. Never read the book, I might hunt that one down. Im interested in what wouldnt have been in the film.

I'm reading book that the Movie A Christmas Story is based on. Its pretty good and funny too. Its getting me in the Christmas spirit. I just finished reading Frank Herbert's Dune. I've never been a Scifi guy but it was really interesting. So much of it takes place in the mind.

Christmas Story by Jean Shepherd is a great book. Many of the stories are in the movie but some are not but I highly recommend it as a good Christmas read.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter is a great book...really enjoyed it.
