    Hook-1991 Steven Spielberg

Anybody remember this? I know I saw it 20 years ago during this time of the year the Holidays.God has it been 20 years! but for the life of me I cant remember anything about it? I just remember getting panned by the critics!.Just like Spielbergs other film 1941 which I love!

I guess it was a hit made for 70 million made 300 million worldwide?

I think I remember it fairly well. I think when I saw it I liked the concept of it more than the way they pulled it off.

I remember it was kind of meandering - some of the scenes didn't transition well. I recall a scene where Pan falls into some water with some mermaids and it feels like something else is going to happen, but then nothing does. He's just out of the water in the next scene.

I also remember feeling like it took a long time to get to Neverland - and then when it did the Lost Boys were a bunch of proactive 80s devil spawn, really dislikable and instantly dated feeling. Like he worst late 80s Saturday morning cartoon - but live-action.

After waiting for Neverland I felt like it took forever for Pan to just get-with-it and start doing Pan stuff.

I recall liking Dustin Hoffman as Hook a lot - and wished the movie was more about him.

There's this scene at the end that really left things on an awkward note for me, where Robbin Williams is back in reality and he turns to his kids and barks in an angry voice "What did I tell you about that window?!!" but he was just tricking the kids and he follows that with "Always keep it opened!" in this really happy voice as he runs to embrace his kids. It was just really awkward for me. For one thing by that point I didn't even remember them discussing the window at the beginning.

It's got that typical typical Hollywood cliché theme where William's character was working too hard and letting life pass him by - which I hate, because while I think balancing work and life is important some people have to work hard to provide for their family.

Again, I didn't hate what they were trying to do - I think it's got that problem that a lot of Spielberg and Williams movies have - where they're trying so hard for the audience to love what they're doing that it actually evokes the opposite response.

Loved Dustin Hoffman as Hook, but that's about it.

My son really loves this movie. I like it. I agree that it didn't quite make the most of a good concept. A bit of a misfire for most involved, but still enjoyable. It does drag quite a bit in several places.

I remember the toys by Mattel were horrible looking. Looked like some knock-offs you'd see at a flea market.

"Hook" was actually the first film Spielberg made that I watched and said to myself; "Wow, he's fallible..." I think it's still one of the worst films he's done to date. It's not Indy 4 bad, but it's pretty damn awful.

I liked it and still do. But then, I liked Waterworld.
