And while I will not disagree with the comments made defending Philly fans, I will tell you this. My friends who are Eagles fans can dish it out but they can't take it. The year Dallas spanked the Eagles three games in the same season, including a playoff game, I didn't see or hear from them for MONTHS! But let the Eagles win a game by a point, much less the spanking they gave them last weekend, and I am getting phone calls and emails up the whosiewatts! One of them called me the NANOSECOND the game ended. The clock hit 00:00 and the phone rings and my wife says "there's Rich". And sure enough...Comment

Around here steeler fan is sickening. They call the players by their first names(Ben,Troy,James,etc..) like they used to play kickball with them or something. Only fans i know who will cheer a fair catch...hell they'd cheer if "Rapistberger" farted and it didn't stink.Comment

We have a lot of Pittsburgh fans here as well. A lot of folks grew up in the area and moved down here at some point for better job prospects. We have our own share of Cowboys fans right here in the heart of Redskins country. I have asked why they are Cowboys fans and the typical answer I get is that they always liked them as a kid. Easy to follow a winner. I see a lot of kids now wearing New England Patriots merchandise....again easy to follow a winner. I always remember the Patriots were horrible up until the last decade. My sister-in-laws ex-husband is truly a fair weather fan who I really don't respect at all when it comes to teams. When I first met him about 20 years ago or so, he was a huge Broncos fan. Then he turns into a huge Buffalo Bills fan. Then it was the Colts, now the Patriots. I joke around with him that he will eventually have merchandise from every team in the NFL."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

I was born and raised right here in Northern Illinois. I am a homer for no real reason. My Dad was not into sports at all so I guess I just ended up as a fan of the teams I saw play both on TV and in person. I am a fan of the Bears (and have 2 season tickets), Bulls, Blackhawks, and Cubs/White Sox. Not a huge baseball fan so yes, I do cheer for both teams.
We live only 13 miles form the Cheddar Curtain (Wisconsin boarder) so around here it is usually Bears vs Packers smack talk.

I just really don't have a similar experience. I love sports, I just don't have any team I'm passionate about. We haven't really had a local team to pull for that doesn't let people down every season. I mostly follow players rather than teams. I just don't have the ability to get overly hyped or overly disappointed. My wife's brothers have had Bengal season tickets since 1990, so you know what I get to talk about at get-togethers...I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.
If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.Comment

That's what I love about football. I have much more respect for fans who stick with their teams through thick and thin than just jumping ship. As much frustration as I have experienced over the last I don't know how many years as a Redskins fan....I still bleed Burgundy and Gold and always will. I have a lot of respect for you weshightower 21 for being a die hard Eagles fan (it has been tough to be an Eagles fan for so many years even though they are better now than they were 15-20 years ago). Same with Cowboys. Were great 15-20 years ago but have sputtered the last few. My biggest respect goes to die hard Detroit Lions fans. They are one of the oldest teams in the NFL but have not only never won a Super Bowl but have never played in one. I'd really like to see them win one (if the Redskins are knocked out of course)."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

Just to point out. I have been a Cowboys fan for almost 40 years. My reasons why are private. I have been asked many times and I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that my answer might tend to incriminate me (Ok, Ok, my mom got me Dallas Cowboy pajamas, the one piece PJ's that even cover your feet, when I was 6 years old and I have been hooked ever since). Anyway... I have stuck with them, good times and bad, never once wavering. And it was a tough time in the 80's when the Eagles would beat the snot out of the EVERY FRIGGIN GAME! I have a busted coffee table from one game when Dallas ALMOST won, but Randall throws a touchdown pass to win it, fourth and goal with seconds left. Up in the air and flying against the wall goes the coffee table. Anyway... I took a lot of grief at work from all of the 200 Eagles fans there during those lean years and I took it like a true fan and waited patiently. Just so you know... I ain't no fair weather fan.Last edited by megoapesnut; Nov 4, '11, 11:39 AM.Comment

Exactly what is that supposed to mean?? I live in PA smack in the middle of Steelers and Eagles country and because I never lived in Dallas, or have relatives in Texas, that makes me a FRAUD? Talk about being ignorant, look in the mirror dude. I have been a Dallas fan for 40 years and for my own reasons. There is no law anywhere that states you must be a fan of any given team if you live near them. Last I checked, this is a free country and you can root for whatever sports team you like. I my opinion, rooting for a team JUST BECAUSE they are the local team is ignorant. And YES, we were having a fun time in this thread until you stuck your nose in with YOUR ignorant comments. I'll probably regret making this post but you struck a nerve.
There were some out of line comments made and I just wanted to clarify a few points. Also, if you feel my way of thinking is ignorant then so be it, again we differ on our opinions. But do tell me, were you loyal to your high school or college? To me pro is no different. Also, I look at sports as fun, for crying out loud my sister is a Giants fan and I refer to her as a fraud. All in fun, but I feel that way. We just disagree. She never saw a Giants game on TV growing up, but at least they are 100 miles away so it makes a little more sense than rooting for a team halfway across the country. It is always easy rooting for a winner. Your argument is poor regarding your friends harrasing you when the Eagles win. I mean you are rooting for a team a thousand miles away and a hated rival of that home team...what do you expect?
I lived in north Jersey for 4 years and took a beating from fans up there. However, unlike you I understood I was the minority. It is like that anywhere along the east coast. I accept you for feeling like you can root for whoever you want and yes no one is telling you that you can't. I, however, think you should support the teams in the area for which you are from much like we Americans do with our country. We just disagree on opinions, but to call me ignorant without knowing who I am as a person is ignorant on your behalf.
I am done posting on this thread. Even though the Eagles have never won a SB, at least we do not have to listen to all the fake Cowboys fans talk for now. I must end this thread by saying I think it is funny that after 1 game all you fans think the season is lost...that is pathetic. Some support you all give to your team. LOLComment

Excuse me. Why don't you reread this thread and tell me again, if you have an open mind if people were having "fun" prior to my post OR did the ignorant comments made about Eagles fans in general were justified because they weren't targeted towards Dallas fans.

And the comment I made on the season is just MY OPINION. In my opinion they are DONE for the season. Just being realistic. If you watched the games that they have lost it just goes to show how inept the secondary is as well as the fact that Romo hasn't been able to get a sustain a long drive together all year. Can't keep rushing the defense out there and not expect them to wear down. And don't even get me started on Garrett's play calling. Only reason why I know these things is that I watch or listen to on the computer all of their games. And even though I think their season is done, as far as getting in the playoffs or Superbowl, I will continue to watch or listen this year. They'll probably win the next 4 out of 5 games, Seattle/Buffalo//Washington/Miami/Arizona, and that will give some fans hope at 7 - 5. The division that they are in though will make it near impossible to make it in the playoffs. Philly is a better team then the Cowboys this year...It's just a fact. I have no problem in stating that. Philly will probably take the NFC East this year. Giants aren't as good as their record states. And if the Giants don't get a running game they will probably be battling the Cowboys for second place in the NFC East. Cowboys could be 9 - 7 this year. Don't think that is good enough to get into the playoffs. Just being realistic."When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity".

There we were, back to having fun and HE pops back in to shoot it down. Great job, buddy. I won't even bother to comment on several of your comments that are off base and, if YOU would reread some of our posts, accuse us of things completely opposite of what some of us are saying. And, the next time you call me a fraud, or a fake Cowboy fan, I WILL show up at your house and replace one of your Mego Lizard lab coats with a REPRO! Take that!Last edited by megoapesnut; Nov 4, '11, 8:52 PM.Comment
