    Another Oakland earthquake

Anyone feel the one at 5:35 this morning? This really has me concerned. We've been getting a lot of these lately. Are we headed for a major quake? Are these just aftershocks of the one in Turkey? I've never been in a major quake. When Oakland had theirs, I was in So. Cal. When So. Cal had theirs, I was in Oakland. I just don't want to come home from my cruise to find that we've had a major quake, or worse yet, be right in the middle of one!

Wow! I woke up from that panicked! I was not sure...but I heard the house settle...and I swore it was an earthquake but VERY brief and strong. Sammy did not feel it.

The last major earthquake I encountered was the one in 1989. I remember buying a glazed donut seconds after it from the vendor at SF State... thinking if it was going to be my last meal, I may as well make it sugary!! It was very creepy to feel that one...it was a rolling earthquake. Everything was in slow motion...in addition to the rumbling underground, the students in the class rooms were all standing up getting ready to bolt...you could hear their chairs scraping the floor all in unison, and the telephone poles, light poles, and muni lines were all wobbling in various directions. Very creepy and frightening. It seemed forever before it finally ended. I think Sammy found me and drove me home...and traffic was snarled that evening because one of the sections of the Bay Bridge had collapsed.

I had never seen the ground look like an ocean...but there it was before my eyes.

Man, Jess, that sounds so scary! I'm so glad I wasn't here, and I hope that's not what's gonna happen!

Me too!! Earthquakes are scary because they are so unpredictable.

              Be careful,

I'd be too afraid to live in an area like you ladies

I'd rather have our one little shimmy-shake every 200 years east coast

I'm OK with living in earthquake country because killer ones are so rare, every 100 years or so.

We don't get hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards, floods, heatwaves, etc...

                So I'm cool...

P.S. Ok, we do get wildfires...

It's all in downtown (which I don't frequent much)...I wasn't even aware of it until I saw myself on the news...the rest of Oakland is operating just fine...

Humans, you are so much nothing in the face of mother nature.

I just made that up, sounds rather good.

No major floods, but the shops on Lakeshore Ave. do use sandbags to keep the rain from getting in their shops. Remember in February when we had 19 straight days of rain??
