I spent more than one night listening to Jean Shepard on WOR radio growing up. I didn't always get his humor back then, but you knew you were listening to a true storyteller. I usually catch at least most of one showing every year on TBS, despite hating Scottie Schwartz (Flick) because he was an annoying little jackass that was in my bowling league as a kid. Nothing makes a kid more of a jerk than a little fame, and between that and The Toy, he had enough ego for more than a few butt whoopings. He was well cast as the spoiled brat in The Toy.
Never would I have ever imagined this small little film would be as big as it is today. My cousin took me to the theatre to see it when I was 10 and I remember simply loving it.
Without a doubt in my top 5 Christmas movies.

Didn't he also "act" in some X-rated movies some years ago?
Did you ever talk to him?
BTW Paul, here's your chance to become friends with him all over again:
Yeah, I know he was in some porn flicks and my friends and I had a good laugh that he had resorted to that. Petty I know, but after he used to school us in all the arcade games in the bowling alley because he had them all in his basement, I guess our childhood grudges lasted longer than I'd care to admit. We did win the league that year though, probably early on in high school. I haven't talked to him since we were kids.
Man, I can't count how many times I've watched it today, I just put the DVD on repeat, I have no cable so I have about 10 Christmas movies, here's my list;
The Ice Harvest
SCROOGED
Gremlins
Night of the Comet (underrated zombie film cheezy though it may be I love it!)
The Simpsons Christmas vol 1
DIE HARD
DIE HARD II
Christmas Vacation
Bad Santa
I watch these movies all month long but I don't whip out A Christmas Story until Christmas Eve and Christmas day. I watch it all day long!
SONSOFB****HES! BUMPUSES! The Old man is the best part of that movie! Darren McGavin is the man!
