No one realized how often these shows would be shown in syndication over the years, not to mention the DVD market which didn't even exist at the time...

I thought the actors were offered a 1 time deal, sort of a buyout, after Star Trek was cancelled rather than have Paramount have to issue checks for every time the show was run somewhere in the world for years to come. They didn't think the show would catch on after cancellation, after all, what show did prior to the 1970's except I Love Lucy?

Sideshow Spock is also correct in that the royalties are not big; more likely the money would be a nice sort of stipend over time. Tie-in merchandising after the show was gone would have probably paid substantially more. The actors likenesses appear on everything connected with the show and that would have been a nice cushion for them in the 1970's when they couldn't get acting jobs.

I obviously do not know them, but even though not in front of the camera, Anson Williams continued to work. Marion Ross and the late Tom Bosley had gigs, so the suit really could be about principle and not just the money. Who knows.

I remember seeing that story about Dick York and it was sad to see.
        It's all good!

I was going to mention her.

She was in Celebrity Fit Club...and towards the end of the series...she broke down and cried in front of the other contestants...saying she didn't join the show to lose weight (she was by the far the thinnest contestant to begin with)...but to get paid...that she badly needed the money.

That's a shame, but sometimes i think some actors are delusional when it comes to an acting career. She was mostly a child actress and was pretty cute. then she got typecast as Joanie and that's where it pretty much ended.

When it gets to a point that you go to endless auditions and no one hires you...maybe just maybe it's time to suck it up and find a new career.

Yvonne Craig, after her movie career fizzled, became a successful real estate agent and is still in demand at Cons she did the voice of the grandmother on the children's show Olivia....there is life outside Hollywood but too many are addicted to the bright lights and don't know when to walk away.....

Yeah but I don't think most of the cast of Happy Days ever thought of themselves "rock stars". Maybe they haven't been smart with their money but I never heard of them behaving like Tara Reid or Lindsay Lohan.

Howard, Winkler, Bosley, Baio, Williams all had some success, large or limited, after Happy Days. Ron Howard, Tom Bosley and Scott Baio have never completely left the public eye. They've worked steadily thru the years. Winkler didn't seem to get many acting gigs until he appeared in Scream and The Waterboy but he was a TV producer for many years. I recall he was producer of the show Sightings. Anson Williams was a TV Director and Producer and when asked if he would return to acting often scoffed at the idea.

Marion Ross had appeared in a film How to Make An American Quilt and Grey's Anatomy. Maybe she appeared in other roles besides those I haven't seen.

Donny Most made some B films, (Stewardess School being a fave of mine). He also did voice-over work for animation as Eric The Cavalier in Dungeons & Dragons.

Al Marinaro passed away a long time ago. He survived being Murray the Cop on The Odd Couple. He would probably have found another role.

I know Erin Moran/Joanie is all kinds of damaged tho. I think she accused one of the co-stars of raping her once and recanted later. She also appeared on the Syndicated Howard Stern show in the late `80's and broke down crying on his show too.

Don't write off Al Marinaro just yet. Al is still with us at 92.

Donny Most was in Glee a few weeks back.

Marion Ross seems to have worked constantly since Happy Days. Remember seeing her on the Gilmore Girls and, more recently, Brothers and Sisters.

Henry Winkler was very recently awarded with an honorary OBE (Order of the British Empire) for his work with dyslexia.

Still life in the Happy Days gang yet!

Marion Ross has actually stayed fairly busy.
