    Getting a present for yourself

Have you ever got yourself something and wrapped it and put it under the tree?
I've done it a couple of times with stuff I ordered that came in right befor christmas. One year late christmas eve day I got a package and my parents wraped it and put it under the tree befor I saw it. (my mailing address is my parents house)

I actually do it quite a bit with toys. This time of year all those store exclusives come out especially with lines like Star Wars. My friends and family have no idea what I have when it comes to toys. They don't understand the concept of having to buy them as soon as you see them on the shelves otherwise they get bought up quickly.

So I make my Christmas list simple for them and just put stuff on it that isn't very hard to find; stuff that I want but wouldn't normally buy for myself. I have yet to wrap any of my own presents however.

I did that last year. I ordered the Evel Knievel signature set w/ funny car, cycle and dragster w/ DVD of his stunts last year. When it came, I took out the DVD, but wrapped the box w/ the toys in it and put it under my tree. And Christmas morning, I opened it up, took it in my back yard and played w/ it!

I had a major Mego Christmas a couple years ago, with the Green Arrow Car, The Waltons truck, a boxed Dinah Mite, and some great customs. I just wrapped the eBay boxes as they arrived and surprised myself with them on Christmas. Closest thing to a 1970's Christmas you could ask for. Its not a terrible thing to have an inside track with Santa.

Actually, as a nice surprise, I did it this year.

My wife purchased a few small gifts for me but wanted me to have something that I wouldn't normally purchase myself and as long as it wasn't completely out of the ballpark expensive.

I ended up buying a limited edition Bill Melendez cel from A Charlie Brown Christmas signed by Bill himself (he actually did all the animation, not Charles Schulz). It's my all time favorite Christmas movie and it is a picture of the scene where Charlie Brown places the ornament from Snoopy's doghouse on the tree just before it droops. It's not an original cel from the movie (they aren't for sale) but a handpainted edition cel from Melendez Studios.

It looks great and is hanging in my home office.

I gave myself a birthday present this October ordered the following sideshow POTA figures: Zira (2 of them) Cornelius (2 of them), Ape Marauder, Caesar, General Ursus, Dr. Zaius. I totally splurged and I was totally worth it. That was Birthday and Christmas all rolled into several figures.

I have to do this every year for Christmas and birthdays as my wife always says she doesn't know what to get me in case I already have it....even if I write her a list. This year I got myself 2 Darth Maul fx lightsabers (they were in a sale)...the kids usually pick something out for me and my wife buys me a little something also(this year the QI dvd interactive game and a Police light to illuminate my computer desk), so she does get me something.
