Back on topic, just how badass was Hitler's bodyguard. I mean, when the entire world wants him dead, how the hell did he keep him alive to the very end? That's pretty impressive, even for a Nazi.
I agree, both planning and some luck helped keep him from assassination. Some of it was by design. Hitler basically had the different divisions (SS, Gestapo, SA, Luftwaffe, etc) fighting amongst themselves as they never trusted each other. Of course IMO I also believe that is part of what caused their ultimate failure.

Another irony is that Hitler never let Germany or the rest of the world know the true stories of his life in Vienna. Not only did he sell his paintings almost exclusively to Jewish dealers and dine as a guest in various Jewish homes but he also had a crush on a Jewish girl. His life seemed to be a story of personal contradictions. Had his father Alois kept his birth name (he was born out of wedlock with no father listed) we would be talking about Adolf Schicklgruber. Alois took the last name of his step father which was Hiedler and later it was changed to Hitler.

Yes he did make it out. They saved his brain. I saw a very rare documentary about it some years ago. It was old, in black and white, the FBI has tried to keep it secret for years.

I forget which documentary I saw but they spent some time on how Hitler never made it into Art College. I remember this quote vaguely/paraphrasing: "If only they had admitted a passable artist into their university; they may have spared the world a very skilled monster."

Nah. Everyone knows his brain was put into a bulldog. He went by the alias Giant Boy Detective. Gotta love The Venture Brothers.

You are correct. He took the entrance test but he wasn't skilled enough in drawing humans to pass. He had enough skill in drawing buildings and such but just wasn't good enough drawing people, faces, etc. Yet another ironic twist of fate.

Here's a site that has some good info on that part of his life. Note the website name.

Speaking of Military Channel and Hitler, did anyone see the early 60's movie with Richard Basehart as Hitler ?

They've been playing it for the past few weeks

It's a pretty freaky movie ... They made it seem Hitler was in love with his own mother
