I prefer the 1951 original to the Kurt Russel remake.

I like 'em both, and It always struck me that the 80's one is almost a sequel to the original. (Although most of that is the universality of the "monster ate everyone at the first base and moved on" concept.) The new one looks.... okay. Actually, it looks a LOT like the 80's one so I don't feel any need to rush out and see it 'cos I feel I already have.... but I'll watch it on cable when it comes out. I really only care about the monster anyway.

Love both the 1951 and 1982 movies.

At least the new one is more of a prequel to the '82 one than a remake. Supposedly showing the Norwegian team actually discovering and defrosting The Thing.

the Carpenter version with Kurt Russel is one of my all time favorite horro movies. it is a little dated to watch now for the special effects but really cool story and it was creepy as hell as a kid watching it

Carpenter's The Thing is more faithful to the original novella, Who Goes There?, than The Thing From Another World.

the monster was more faithful, the John Ford one captured the creepiness factor better and didn't just go for shock value like Carpenter's

Can't wait for The Thing, but my GAWD does that Three Musketeers look awful.

When Marie Antoinette does a triple somersault/spinkick 20 feet in the air while swordfighting six guys at once I just fell off the couch laughing.
These Hollywood wire-rigged fight scenes are just beyond ridiculous now.

^^ Do you plan on seeing the John Carpenter version before you go to the theatre? If not, it would be interesting to see your take on it (since this is supposed to be a prequel) and then watch the 1982 version.

The one from the 50's, I love the scene where they find the ship in the ice and hold hands to form a circle to figure out the circumference of the ship.
                          It's all good!

I want to see the new one first, then compare.
since people say they are the same movie and same end, so i would rater see better fx first

The new one is supposed to be the prequel to the 80's one.... but they kinda look like the same thing... so I guess it kinda comes down to how you feel about Snake Plisskin....

Never in my life have I seen as many remakes and reboots as I have in the past ten years or so. Personally, I think it's getting a little ridiculous. I'm afraid of what I'll do if they touch Jaws!
