Taxidermy and Mounted/framed Insects (and stuff like that)

Yesterday I managed to score something that I had wanted for quite a while, 2 mounted/framed tarantulas (and a violin beetle too, but in a different frame naturally). Just in time for Halloween.
I have sort of a vintage science/nature display cabinet going on with various types of skulls, old science microscope and chemistry sets, vintage encyclopedias, kids science books, a little alligator, some random bugs etc.
I'm kinda on the fence about adding any mammals or birds. Anybody have a similar collection?

I don't but have heard that taxidermy animals can be super expensive.

I have a 4 foot alligator my Grandmother got me when I was a kid. She also got one for my brother. Why? I'm not sure.

I'm not too fond of taxidermy animals...especially mammals...I hate the ego of man displaying something so tacky and macabre to satisfy his own ego...I'm sorry...but I'm not into that. And I'm not against hunting per say...if you are going to eat the meat...that's fine...but for the pure pleasure of killing for trophy purposes...especially snuffing the life on an awesome predator (whose meat is not going to be consumed anyway) just for kicks...well...I'm not too fond of that practice.

A tarantula is fine though...go for it...

What if I stalk and kill animals with a bow and arrow, and eat the meat? Do you think I then have the right to put that animal's head on my wall, Hec? Just curious, big guy--

Sounds like a neat collection. I love looking at stuff like that...except for taxidermy displays. I get freaked out, and don't get me started on stuffed birds.

I bought this mounted raccoon butt recently because it was $6 at a junk shop and also because it says something about mankind in a way, I guess:

That's so funny and creepy at the same time...kind of like an Alf...or kind of like a furry snufalu***us....

And I guess it's just as creepy too...but I love fur on clothing...like fur collars, purses...and whatnot. I used to have a pair of fur earrings that I lost. I loved them...they looked like fluffy dandelions.

You have the right to do whatever...taxidermy is not illegal as long as it's not a protected and endangered species...but it's not my thing...still an ego trip...and still tacky...in my humble opinion of course.

But if you wanna do that...more power to you...

What are you trying to say, Sandy...you have some trophy hunting displays on your wall?

My main issue is with mammals (especially predators)...if you have something like a big arse swordfish on your wall...I have no problem with that...lol.

Again...my main beef is with mammals...especially predators.

People have no business killing lions, tigers, bears, wolves, leopards, cheetahs, jaguars, mountain lions, wolverines, eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, komodo dragons, etc,...aside from them being low in numbers (they number in only the thousands)...they serve a purpose in life...to maintain a cycle that has been here for millions of years. Plus people, especially Westerners, don't eat those types of animals.

Tarantulas? There are practically MILLIONS of them...go crazy...

I like beef, pork, chicken...but those are domesticated animals that number in the hundreds of millions...not wild endangered species....and I don't like to display them...just eat them...
