Casey Kasem's American Top 40

So our Local "oldies" station plays entire broadcasts of American Top 40 from the 70's and 80's on sunday morning. Its interesting to hear Casey Kasem talking in between songs about current artist's who are now considered classic or events from back in those days. Takes you back to a different time that's for sure.

We have a local station that does the same thing - I've stumbled across it now and again when I'm sitting in the parking lot waiting for my wife to finish shopping. I find it mesmerizing.. it really is like going back in time.

We have a local station that does the same thing - I've stumbled across it now and again when I'm sitting in the parking lot waiting for my wife to finish shopping. I find it mesmerizing.. it really is like going back in time.

I listen to it on my way to work on sunday mornings. Since there aren't to many cars on the road at that time it adds to the surreal time travel feeling I get when listening to it.Just this week Kasey Kasem introduced this new group burning up the chart's called EARTH,WIND,and FIRE. Its also fun trying to guess what year they were aired before they tell you when it was after the commercial break. Makes me long for those days..

Bringing back this thread again. Was listening to it this weekend. Seems like they recorded EVERY show he ever did. The quality of the show sounds fresh like it was recorded today considering how long ago it was recorded.

Man, I wish I had a station that did that. I would end up recording them.

Growing up that wasnt just a broadcast, it was an event! I didnt have MTV at the time and other than weekend videos this was one of the things I looked forward to on weekends.

The AMERICAN TOP 40 show he did in the 81-82 years was weekly ritual for me to watch after Saturday morning cartoons followed by Solid Gold. This was before I had MTV as well. As much as I enjoy hearing the shows from the early to mid 70's. My favorite years they replay are 78-84. I assume the radio show started to decline around 85 due to MTV although I could be wrong. Its always nice to hear long forgotten artists and songs on his show

Im probably stopped listening on a regular basis around '90 or so when musical taste started to drastically change. I didnt get MTV until '92 are so. By then MTV was already starting to go down hill....(at least they DID still play music videos at the time)

Yes! Before we had MTV, Casey's show was the only way we could see music videos. Well, that and Night Tracks on Friday nights.

I remember Kasey switched over to tracking Adult and Contemporary countdowns toward the end of his radio run in this area.

We have the old shows here too. They are just full of nostalgia for me. My brothe rt listened religiously to these when we were kids.
