    postal delivery

If the mail stops coming on Saturday ,if they change to just a 5 day delivery will that bother you in any way?

Nope...in fact, they could cut it back to 3 days a week and it wouldn't bother me.

So long as they can stay a viable and affordable service I'm okay with it. Now if the cuts come with an increase in fees then I'm not so cool with it. However I do hope that they get their internal issues rectified. They have and are spending a ton of cash on figuring out how to save money.

And in the end the USPS is still more accessible and affordable than anything out there for the most part.

No...the postal service has to do that in order to try and slash its enormous deficit...five days a week delivery is more than enough.

          Yes...by a mile...lol.

I tested it out one day...I went to a UPS store...and they wanted to charge me $75 to ship a painting...so I RAN to the post office...and it was under $30 there.

          No comparison.

Postal rates are going up and up and up.

I don't want to see us lose services on top of price increases.

Funny you should mention both USPS and Netflix together.

USPS is going to suffer when Netflix drops its DVD mailing service altogether...that's gonna be a huge loss for the postal service.

I have a perfect way for the PO to save money

Make EVERYONE have post office boxes

                  No home delivery

Where I live now they don't home delivery (my town is too small)

As far as saving money goes, I really think they need to cut some of their management levels. From what I've seen they have a remarkable amount of bureaucracy in the organization. And considering what the average postal worker makes I can only imagine that the "higher-ups" are making more for a lot of redundancy.

For not a bit, they could actually take Friday off too. Every bill I have is paperless. The only thing I get is funk mail and the occasional package. They could shut down all together and I be fine.

I would rather see them drop Saturday instead of Wed. like they were originaly talking of.

Send me your address and I'll send you something so you don't just get "funk mail"

                            Are you nuts????

Hell no...I'd rather pay more than have to go to the bloody post office.

Easy for you to say...small town Mikey...I live in a city...lol.

Can you imagine close to half a million residents trying to get their mail personally in Oakland?

That would be even more expensive...the postal service would have to build millions and millions of postal boxes throughout the country.

                            Very bad suggestion...

They actually had something similar to this in my first home which was a townhouse community. They basically had small locked boxes for everyone's mail. A couple of large boxes that were used for bigger items. They would place a key in your box which would allow you to open the big box. Once you opened the box to retrieve your package the key could not be released from the key hole.
