I enjoyed that documentary. But I have always had some strong reserves about how Scheimer presented himself as not knowing what could happen to his employees after he sold the company. I'm sorry, but no one with a head for business comes to the table naively saying "Yeah, I'm here to sell off my company, but you have to PROMISE to keep my employees." That doesn't ring true at all. That's like selling your car and asking them not to drive above the speed limit. No one does that. And if he felt that invested in those people, then he shouldn't have sold it. But it was a last chance for him to make good money while the industry still permitted him to. He needed to sell off his investment before the industry overseas bankrupted him. It was 100% self preservation, which most of us would do under his circumstances. But to sell it to his employees like he didn't have a clue what would happen to them is very disingenuous and back stabbing. The ship was going down, but the captain wasn't hanging around. What he should have told them was the truth - "I can't keep this company afloat any longer, so I'm going to have to sell it off. I wish I didn't have to, but I don't have a choice." That was the truth. And if he ever valued those employees, he would have laid it out straight. Look him after the sale and look at his employees. He's comfortably retired, marketing himself. Where are they today? Who knows...

I was watching a "New Scooby Movies" episode with my daughter this weekend, and the drawings were just awful. Even the close-ups where they just copied the model sheets were bad. This was never a problem at Filmation!

Im glad They reused the same cells god bless Lou Scheimer he kept alot of american animators among other artists working because of that and not sending the stuff overseas cant say that about alot people these days a true Patriot,yeah I love Hanna Barbera but they sent their crap over seas thats why probably the quality of the New Scooby Doo movies probably looked bad

Even though Filmation reused the same cells over and over and over, at least everything looked very slick and appealing. Hanna-Barbera's quality varied greatly in the 70s and 80s. I was watching a "New Scooby Movies" episode with my daughter this weekend, and the drawings were just awful. Even the close-ups where they just copied the model sheets were bad. This was never a problem at Filmation!

Yeah that documentary is included on the Justice League DVD box set that had the Teen Titans, Aquaman, Green Lantern, and many more. Filmation definitely looked like a cool place to work.

I found the box set that has this Documentary its not even that pricey although I didnt grow up watching 60's Filmation but may have to pick it up anyways just for the Documentary

Im a huge Filmation fan. I still watch Tarzan, Blackstar, Flash Gordon on a regular basis. That would be nice if they officially released TARZAN on DVD.

I like alot of Filmation's work. But some of it is hit and miss. I think they did their very best work towards the late 70's and early 80's.

That's how i feel about them...it was a solid company did good stuff but sometimes they relied too much on stock........I thought He-man was a big time low the toys were great the animation for the show was horrible.....
