Anyone here read ebooks?

I'm doing some homework for a very dear friend of mine who has recently completed a book that he's been working on for years. He's wanting me to help him push and promote it and believe me I'm honored to be given the challenge. The trick now though is that I'm not an ebook reader. So I'm curious as to who is and what influences your choice when picking a title to read.

It's not that I am against ebooks or anything I'm just not all that comfortable with them yet and haven't played with a Kindle or any of the other devices. Anyway enough about my ignorance, what say you guys and gals? Ebooks - do you read 'em? Why or why not?

I read all of my books on my iPad via a Kindle app and the iBooks app. I love having my entire book collection in one device. I find it difficult to read a regular book anymore.

I have already stated that I continue to read books on paper. With that said, most people I know who own a Kindle or other ebook, love it. One huge positive I can see from them aside from the general clutter of books is independent authors can now write books and sell them without a publisher and inexpensively. I think there is a great opportunity for a company to set up shop that will help independent authors promote their ebooks and work with companies like Amazon to ensure the books will be carried by them.

I am a scholar by trade and am in the process of reading most of the time. My wife recently purchased a Kindle for me. I would never had made the purchase for myself but once I started reading on it I found that I liked it. The screen is just like reading from the page and of course the advantage of having a whole library in your pocket is great. I still prefer real books but its the next best thing. I just purchased Tolkien's Ordinary Virtues as an ebook and tremendously enjoyed it. I would encourage any potential authors to publish this way. I hope this post helps.

I encourage kids of all ages to read either actual books or its print on iPads/Kindles...or whatever...as long as they read books...I don't care what format...as long as kids get hooked on books...no matter what the medium.

Well said. I am always reading a book. As soon as I finish one, I start another. My mom started me young with Hardy Boy books and it was off to the races!

Some of my favorites are:

Anything from Dean Koontz, but especially Twilight Eyes, Midnight and Watchers

The Stand and Salem's Lot by Stephen King are tops

Shadow of the Moon and The Far Pavilions by M.M. Kaye are fantastic books. I have read both often.

Tom Clancy is an excellent author, especially Without Remorse and Rainbow Six

Nelson Demille is also fantastic, I love his John Corey series.

Clive Cussler is a fun favorite

So many good books, so many great authors.

another thing is alot of out of print books are becoming ebooks!

Despite the fact that I love technology, I just can't get into ebooks. I guess it's the tactile experience of paper and page-turning. I do have a few comic book series on my computer though. Mostly scans of things that aren't available on CD-Rom.

Hmmmm....

I read mostly paper, although a lot of stuff is avaialable as digital so's I don't have a choice. Not that it's a big hardship. (Thanks to gutenberg.org I can finally read the ORIGINAL Tom Swift.)

I've had a Kindle for about two years and I love it. I still read plenty of "real books," but if I'm buying anything new, I'll purchase it for the Kindle.
