When I was going to college I worked at UPS during the holidays as a loader. Never did I have a bigger eye-opener into the process of shipping than I did with this job. What the others have said about crushing packages is the God's truth. The company made us crame every package as tight as possible whether it worked...or not. It was nothing to hear items breaking when we were packing the trucks. One of the most deplorable companies to ship an item through. I know someone who was promoted to a supervisor here in Louisville. He's worked for them less than two years, has no college degree or former experience, yet they gave him the job. Their an absolute joke. I don't buy from anyone who uses UPS on Ebay. I always laugh when I see that guy on those UPS commercials illustrating how "simple" and efficient their delivery service is. You should send them your own illustration of where your package has been. I bet it doesn't form the UPS shield...
Best of luck to you Spock. I truly hope you get it soon.

The package finally jolted into motion at 11pm tonite, and has departed for the UPS hub in the neighboring city. The projected delivery date of 1/2 has also switched to 12/28.

UPS didn't respond to my email from this morning, but I have to assume it was read by someone and steps were taken to get the package swiftly back on track.

Thanks to everyone for their experiences and insights in helping me deal with this little annoyance.

I sent a GI Joe Land Adventurer to someone with $50.00 insurance........

        It never arrived.

        I did the claim...

USPS made me bring in a price guide as to what Joe was worth....

        I told them --- I have $50.00 insurance.......

They said, it don't matter.... They need to see a "price guide value"--- and eBay auctions dont count.

All I could find was an old book that had him listed for $40.00

That's all they gave me--- after a waiting time of a month and a half.

Not sure if things have changed.
That happened about 4-ish years ago.
I remember years ago, I had a demolished vintage lunchbox and the USPS claims department wanted a letter from a professional appraiser that was an expert on vintage lunchboxes before they would accept my claim....I asked them if I could write the letter myself since I knew this stuff better than most people....the answer was no. Fortunately, I knew the author of a vintage lunchbox guide book who wrote a letter on my behalf....sheesh!
