I remember that like it was yesterday. Amazing moment. I also remember how that space shuttle made everyone feel. It was like we were embarking on the next great adventure into space. Hope and dreams seemed unlimited back then. Good times.
Same here.., I vividly recall the excitement of seeing nearly all the original cast together. It seemed like such an amazing feat.., almost over shadowing the Shuttle itself.
Those were the days of hopes. Just look how young Nimoy looks..
Talk about an incredible honor for a writer and a handful of actors on a "silly space show". The 70's were so cool like that. To me the pop culture marketing of that decade is still the best of the best. Everything had such a personal feel to it. As if WE were ALL a part of the bigger things. Unity, that's the word. Unity.
This picture proves how huge of an ego Shatner always has had (by not being there)...that's why most of the crew hated him.
I mean...I don't care what other commitment he was doing at the time...this was a very important and momentous occasion...and a true honor...certainly more important than a mere acting gig...that's for sure.
Having said that...what a super cool picture...the entire crew (sans Shatner) looked great...they were at their prime of their lives...posing in front of a real life Enterprise...they all looked so young and healthy...it's actually a bittersweet photo...since Roddenberry, Kelly, and Doohan are gone now...but still very nice to see.

It's too bad this shuttle never flew. I think enthusiasm for the space program would have carried further if there had been regular launches for "The Enterprise" that people could've attended beyond this dedication ceremony. Still, a very cool moment in history.
Wow...That must have been quite an honor. Is there an actual story as to why Shat wasn't present?
