    Week one NFL thoughts

Very interesting opening to the season.

Cam Newton - I always thought this dude to be an assbag. I still do, but I can no longer doubt his talent level. He'll have some bad games coming up, but he's got a lot of upside.

Tom Brady - I've never understood the hate towards him. He's as good as any QB I've seen, and I'm a huge Marino fan. I can take or leave the Pats, but Brady is freakin elite, period. 517 yards? Really?

Peyton Manning - His neck is hurt. Mine would be too if I had twelve years of carrying an entire sports franchise on my shoulders. With this latest surgery, a spinal fusion, I doubt he'll be back this year. I have doubts if we'll see him play again ever. That kind of injury is nothing to take chances with.

Buffalo scored 41 points in a rout of the Chiefs, equalling their point total for all of last season.

Cincinnati won a game. It's pretty sad when, in the lockeroom, ankle monitors outnumber playoff wins. Vegas odds put them at 300-1 to win the Super Bowl. I think Appalachian State is at 250-1.

Pittsburg is crushed. The new Batman movie is filming in upper Pennsylvania, and members of the Steelers were invited to cameo. Producers became upset with Big Ben as he forced his way into the batcave uninvited.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

that's why people hate Brady, cause he's good

Cam looks to be a Vick type player, he can hurt you with his arm and legs

Miami's d sucked but i was impressed with the offense, didn't see that coming..Henne was almost as good as Brady

Da Bears dismantling the Falcons (a Playoff favorite) and the Skins beating the Giants, looked like the Mannings are fading everywhere.

Injuries seem a bit high to me for so early in the season.

I loved watching the Bears win and they played a solid game all around. Jay looks much more comfortable in his second year of the Martz offense as does the rest of the team. Brian Urlacher had yet another great game and it was nice to see him run in a fumble for a TD.

I was shocked at the Chiefs vs. Bills score!

I was also shocked to see how well Cam Newton played. He looked very good and I would have never guessed he was playing his first "real" pro game.

I also can't believe that Tony Romo once again helped give a game away. A few of the Cowboy fans I know wanted to string him up!

That Chiefs/Bills game was a shocker. I'm not a gambler but decided to enter a suicide football pool for $20. For those that are unfamiliar with it; each week you pick one game of your choice, one winner forget the point spread. The catch is that you can not pick the same winner twice (for example, had I picked the Chargers to win...which they did, you can't pick them again). One loss and you are out. With so many games in the season; you generally want to pick what would be considered mismatches and save the elite teams for later. So, I took the Chiefs to beat Buffalo. They were favored by 6-8 points, playing at home, thought it was a good pick. Buffalo destroys Chiefs and I just laughed because I was at least put out of my misery right away. As a side note, it is a winner take all pool and the pot was $10,000. In past years, up to 5 people have won and had to split it but for $20 I figured what the heck.

Redskins had a solid win but still flying under the radar. I heard every excuse in the game about the Giants missing players due to injury (the Redskins are too). They are not super bowl status but may improve tremendously as the year progressess. I'm am cautiously optimistic but admit they do not have an easy schedule.

Same thing with my Chargers. Flying a bit under the radar this year because they have not lived up to the high expectations of previous years. No one is really expecting them to do much. Plus, they play in the weak AFC west, the conference nobody really cares about.

Could this be the year? Probably not...but I'll get my hopes up once again to watch them probably get dashed

Did you realize Sunday's loss was Cam Newton's first as a professional in 14 games...

I don't think so at all with the Chargers. Yeah, I know that Patriots and Eagles are receiving most of the attention along with Pittsburgh and Baltimore in the AFC but I don't think anyone in their right mind is not taking the Chargers seriously....one would be a fool to do otherwise. On the otherhand, I have watched the Redskins Preseason games which I know don't mean much but their 1st teams dominated Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Tampa Bay. Again, I am cautiously optimisitic but they just might surprise a lot of the talking heads this year. Everyone forgets that they beat the Packers, Bears, and Eagles last year and their team looks better this year.

And I'll never understand the Manning hating. Actually this surgery is pretty common according to league doctors several players have it every year with about a 6week recovery period. He'll be back. Probably not in time to save this season , but he'll be back. The Colts still have probably better Super Bowl odds than the Bengals

My Broncos let me down again. By the second quarter the fans were chanting for Tebow. Orton is just so 75%, vanilla, toast with no butter. The guy has no personality and shows no heart out there. Its just too easy to dismiss him. Two turnovers, and a mediocre showing. There was plenty of blame to go around, but it was crushing to lose the home opener on monday night...to the Freakin Raiders!!!! Where was the projected pass rush, Campbell threw for 105 yards and still spanked the home team. I guess you really do have to be able to syop the run. BLLAAAAHHHH!!
