    Butterflies

So, we recently went to the Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus. It's pretty cool - you get to walk around inside a butterfly habitat, and they're flying all over. Here are a few pics:

2 butterflies caught during a private moment:

Looking up through a window covered in blown-glass pieces:

Oh, and we got a chrysalis in the gift shop. We put it in a shoe box & covered it with plastic wrap. A butterfly emerged after a few days, and we fed it some sugar-water. We released it outdoors the next day.

Man---those are some great shots!!! Beautiful creatures, too!!! What kind of camera were you using? It captures macro-detail really well....
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

They have one of those at Callaway Gardens in Georgia. It is very relaxing to go inside and watch them.

Thanks. I used a Canon SX210is. It's a point & shoot, but is has a 14X optical zoom lens built-in. It's auto-focus, and I have problems getting it to focus on small subjects like flowers & butterflies. So, I probably shot 100 pics, and deleted 35 off the top for focus issues...which is OK for my needs. It zooms right in on the kids playing soccer, etc.

If anyone is looking for a camera: I compared a bunch of cameras & stores last year and found the best prices across the board on Black Friday, at least for point & shoot. Amazon, specifically, had several nice deals, including the one I bought.

Keep an eye out for coupons. They offered free passes to kids as part of Columbus Library's summer reading club, and the wife & I bought a groupon for 1/2 price admission. So, the 4 of us got in for the price of one $11 adult admission.

Very nice. My family and I saw a similar thing at the Franklin Park Zoo when we were in Boston and they do one during the summer around here, too.
                      It's all good!
