    9/11 10'th anniversary

    Can't believe it's been 10 years.

The day it happened, I took care of business in a daze. I had to mail something at the post office. It was surreal. Almost no talking except for what was needed to mail things. At the time I mailed my package, we still had one tower. I was thinking "Now it's going to be just one tower" not even considering the second one could go down too. I thought the plane must of hit the first tower just right to make it go but the other one should be okay. But, of course, it wasn't to be.

On the day it happened I was awoken by my father. I didn't have to be at work til 10AM so I was still asleep.

He told me to turn on the news, that a small plane looks to have hit a building in NY. (We're originally from NY, Ozone Park-Queens to be exact, so we take stuff that happens in NY pretty seriously in my family.)

I got dressed in a daze and got in the car for my 30 min commute to Fort Lauderdale for work. I listened to Howard Stern on the drive up and he gave me the play by play.

I-95 was deserted. There were no planes flying overhead. Howard Stern told me the first tower came down.

I got to a co-worker's house to pick him up and go to work, and I was invited in by his family and we stood around the TV as his father said "Look it's a replay of the tower going down."

Then we noticed the word "LIVE" on the corner of the screen. It was the second tower.

We got to work and we all stood around watching the TV.

Finally I said to my boss, "I want to be with my family right now."

Everyone else agreed. We closed up and all went home by noon.

I can't remember the drive home.

It's funny how I can remember all the details like that from a day 10 years ago, but I can't remember what I ate for lunch yesterday.

I was in the work van looking for irrigation parts and had the radio on, think it was Stern. Of course they were freaking out live from NY. Watched at a client's house for a while. The subdivision where I used to work was right in the air traffic pattern and usually lots of commercial planes, that day and the rest of the week, just military stuff including stealth bombers. Different(and way better) job now, and on Sunday two Cathedral Oaks are being planted and dedicated.

I lost a childhood friend that day. My heart still grieves for his wife and now 9 1/2 year old daughter.

We saw the second plane hit from the building I used to work at. We caught a shock wave from the explosion that shook our building-and we're like 6 blocks away!!!! That cloud from the explosion seemed to move in slow motion. But to an observer of something you cannot quite comprehend, time just seemed to slow down. One guy, by the window, turned to us and asked incredulously, "Did you see that second plane go into the building?!?!?!"

After we fled from the building I was heading for the 59th St bridge withe intent of getting out of the city-alive. Some woman started screaming-Look! Look! I turned to see the 1st tower come down. It sounded like a train coming to an abrupt halt in the subway from where I was. Did all the people get out!?!?! It sent my mind reeling.

it was the most horrific day in my lifetime. I remmeber the absolut sense of panic everywhereas everyone was tring to figure out what was going on. My father had worked in the trade center and was forced to retire a year earlier due to heart issues. who would have thought heart problems would save his life. all bit 1 or 2 people he had worked with were killed. a guy i went to high school with and worked with for several years afterwards was killed in the Pentagon when the plane hit there.
my thoughts are with all those who lost loved ones that day

My heart still breaks when I think about you folks who where directly impacted by the attacks be it from a lost loved one or being in close proximity to the locations.

For me I was watching the news on television while drinking my morning coffee as per normal. Heard the report of the first one and knew it wasn't an accident, then of course saw the second one hit live. My heart sank as at that very moment I picked up muy then 11 month old son and knew that his life in America would not be anything like mine had been up to that point. The country had completely lost its innocence in a second fiery flash.

Again my heart goes out to all of you who were affected by that day not only in NY, DC and Pennsyvania but all over the world.
