Oh, ours is always on, I never even considered turning it off. Something is usually connecting to it, my computer (which is also always on), my wife's computer, PS3, Media Center extender, Blu-ray players, smartphone, etc. so it would be silly to keep turning it on and off.

Mine's on all the time except if I know there's a particularly nasty storm headed my way, then I unplug from the computer. It's pretty much a piece of doo-doo, though, and I need to replace it with an Apple Airport someday....
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Mine is on, but mostly for the other person who lives in the basement apartment of my house. I mostly work from a desktop, but sometimes I use my laptop. When my brother visits, he always uses a laptop.

                          ok i'm missing something somewhere.

My router is connected to my laptop. When the laptop is on the router is on, when i switch the laptop off what would be the point of leaving the router on?

I believe everyone is talking about a stand alone router used to set up a Wi-Fi network in your home (or business) which is also what we have. Ours is always on since it is used for the computers, laptops, Jr's DS, our PS3, and our Vizio TVs. For us there is no reason to turn it off except to reset it. Ours is also secured. Almost all our neighbors have a Wi-Fi setup now and a few are still unsecured.
