use cement board on the lower walls so if it happens again you don't need to worry....and ceramic tile on the floor, makes it easy to just clean up.....

and in the event of heavy rainfall expected keep plastic shelving on hand to put everything up high as a precaution

Good luck Anthony. I know what you are going through, our finished basement flooded after a freak storm when we first moved into our home five years ago. It's a terrible experience I wouldn't wish on anyone, I'll never forget it. Hope the new one turns out great.

You hit the nail on the head!!! That is just what I am doing..... Also got a call from State Farm yesterday an agent will pass by Saturday to assess the damage, and even though I do not have flood insurance since the damage was caused by a sewer back up I am covered up to 10k on certain items such as (which are now not working) the washer & dryer as well as my central air unit! That of course is a load off my mind!!!

Thanks for the good thoughts folks!

I'm glad to see that your finding a silver lining from the black cloud you just went through. Perhaps in the remodel you can add in some permenant display shelves? At least 24 inches off the floor

Just wanted to give you guys an update and an idea of the amount of books I lost.....
But all in all things are moving along well, the large room in the basement is almost gutted and the rest of the house is storage until the tiles are put down.
