I appreciate the fact that this group wasnts to pay tribute to the Muppets, but really, the classics should just be left alone."Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."Comment

On first listen, I liked it.
Then I heard an interview with the singer from OK Go. He's obviously a huge Muppets fan. Told a story about meeting Kermit backstage at the Tonight Show and crying (apparently the video is on YouTube somewhere).
In the interview, he basically said, "The Muppets theme song is one of the greatest songs of all time. You can't improve on it. So the only choice is to take it in a different direction."
It was obviously a lot of thought and care went into this version, and it truly was a tribute done out of love. So I dig it all the more after hearing him talk about it and knowing where he was coming from.Comment

Who is not a huge Muppets fan? That holds no bearing on the quality of the product, and this is exactly what I thought it would be: An “updated” cacophony nobody asked for and nobody will care about. Also, how long are OK Go going to milk their synchronized treadmill schtick? I can already see them on the “Tonight Show” in 20 years doing the same old same old.
All this is is the same nonsense that happens with every film: The parent company—that has some connection to the music biz—decides to hook up some “young” act to a film to hook in the “cool kids.” The end product is always mediocre and usually the music one hears during the end credits while people are trying to leave the theater.
What is maddening is the Muppets do not need to be forced down anyone’s throats for it to succeed. The Muppets appeal to all generations and have always. One of the most amazing group of non-Disney (at least before Disney hooked them in) characters ever. All one has to do is not try to hard and the Muppet product will succeed. But man, if this is any indicator of the film to come, talk about trying to hard.
