    More Netflix Woes

Seems Starz is pulling out from providing Netflix with content early next year.

Starz to pull content from Netflix as talks fail

Starz is the exclusive distributor of first-run Sony and Disney movies on pay-TV in the United States under an agreement that allows it to distribute the programming wholesale on multiple platforms, including online streaming.
Netflix spokesman Steve Swasey said the company was "confident we can take the money we had earmarked for Starz renewal next year, and spend it with other content providers to maintain or even improve the Netflix experience.

No surprise, online streaming is the way of future for content. Even now there are some startup companies approaching studios to "coral" their content and put it online as service once all the rights and licensing is put in order.

I totally agree. It's an on demand world and its not gonna go away. For Starz to want to play hardball or whatever they're doing is a mistake unless they have their own streaming service in the works.

Online streaming might be the future but stuff like this will stall it. The battle over rights fees will take quite some time to get over and must be settled before online streaming can truly take a foothold IMO.

the availability of movies on Netflix was already hurt over the last deal they lost. you enter titles now and a lot of movies you would think would show up don't

I changed my plan to the $7 stream only....but if the library SHRINKS instead of grows.....

I am canceling my subscription soon I bet.

Netflix is one of the greediest companies in the world-- The deal the distributor made for my movie with them was shameful. They want everything for nothing, but wanna stick it to their customers.

I show 96 episodes for American Dad and 207 episodes for South Park. Did you know they consolidated seasons of the show under one banner?

The selections I've seen from Starz don't seem to be the higher quality streams anyway (no HD and the quality seems softer than most other selections).

I come to Netflix streaming for classic shows and old, out of the way movies (it's cheaper to stream that obscure movie than put it out on DVD).

I don't like the or price increases and will adjust back from 3 to 2 discs with streaming at a time. But overall, it's still worth it.

It's too bad though they don't want to pony up for the independent movies they show (Like Sandy's).

                    well, what the heck...
Mike, I swear that stuff was gone.
My kid and I went over the south park stuff with a fine tooth comb.
I logged onto my iPad just now and infact, I now see all episodes.
I wonder if it was just bad luck when we searched - at the same time they were restructuring?

mkay. one SMALL apology to Netflix from this guy.

                    We primarily use AppleTV (gen2).
From what I gather, netflix has to re-encode their stuff to work on it.
There's a long list of complaints (last time I read Apple forums) about audio/video sync issues.
If we watch a 2hr movie - once, maybe twice, it will pause...annnnd a few seconds later it catches up.
American Dad is notoriously bad for us, whereas South park is perfect.
American Dad will just get so out of sync...it's like the video skips a whole 5 minutes. If you hit rewind for just a few seconds, it makes it all happy.
We don't have that issue via the iPad, Xbox, PS3.
And I have bought a second AppleTV and the same issue persists.
AppleTV is our primarily source of entertainment as I have begun transfering our dvd library to my iTunes.

I personally think Redbox is killing off alot of the competition.

I stopped using Netflix and went to Redbox. They seem to have the newer releases when I want them and don't have to wait in a queue. My big complaint is lack of older and independent movies with them.

Netfilx really ticked me off with their new pricing and tiers. I wouldn't mind streaming if they actually had something worth watching and had better quality. They are also a pain in the rear to contact. There is no email that I could find. They want you to contact them via phone which is great, if they would answer the phone. Every time I tried, I would get hung up on due to high call volume.

My biggest gripe with Netflix is they seem to be tapering off getting older TV shows.

They still don't have Banacek --- but Blockbuster had it 3 years ago.

Starz going away won't bother me, I rarely watch anything from it anyway. Netflix seems to be adding more stuff all the time, so there is always something to watch. I dumped the by mail part and went to streaming only. If Hulu would work right on my player I'd be set.
