Can anyone tell me what this monstrosity is? This is not a roach. When I killed it it was docile. A NYC roach runs away fast. This damn thing plays dead. I found 3 in my apartment since July. Don't know how they got in except that we had some movers take away some furniture in July. Maybe these guys smuggled in with the moving blankets?

LOOKS like a classic red German cockroach to me, but I'm no entomologist. I would be surprised if it weren't in the roach family somewhere---too many similar characteristics. Oh, and BTW----it is "one ugly m****r f****r!!!sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon. -

I mean, yeah it looks like a roach, maybe related to one but it aint no regular roach. The ones in the 'burbs here are not as big and ugly as this. Also I've seen Manhattan roaches, killed a few in my time and they don't have such obvious spikes on the legs and those azz antennae. Plus these moved slow. Very easy to kill except for 1 that flew around the room and tried to get me.Comment

Yup. Looks like a roach. They're usually fast, so perhaps you had a drunk one. The moving blankets would have been a good trojan horse for these...Those who look outside dream. Those who look within awake.

I have some comic boxes in the apt. and file boxes with toys & stuff. I found the most recent one under/behind,(?), a box I moved. I was bagging up some open collectible stuff, (not comics), and looking for any more bugs I could find. It was incapacitated or something. Just laid on it's back with it's legs moving in the air. Was it hibernating? Or dying for lack of food?
The first I killed also just sat still as I killed it. It sounded like a nut cracking when I stepped on it. Usually roaches move fast. Except for the flying one these guys just sleepwalk. Also not sure why some of them came out in the open for no reason-obviously vunerable and easy to kill.Comment

Hmmmm....
That's definitely a roach: it's got the thorax plate that sweeps over the head and the bent back antenna. If they're staggering around they may have been exposed to something that's killing them. Could be a cleaning solution, something in the walls.... they could have just been old ones dying of natural causes. But yeah; get the place sprayed ASAP. If you can, move things away from the walls. Roaches don't like open areas and it'll reduce the chances of them getting into boxes and the like.
