This is a cool thread and I hope to give you a better response over the weekend. I have a HUGE collection of film scores and love 'em all. I find that when I'm writing or painting, soundtrack music (or even classical) is a good companion....
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

        I'm a huge soundtrack fan. I have over 400.
And I'm not talking about what people usually think of as movie soundtracks.
People say to me: "Yeah, man, I love Saturday Night Fever and High School Musical!!!"
I then cringe and get out of the room really fast....

I'm talking Jerry Goldsmith, Lalo Schiffrin, people who are the classical composers of our century. I've recently restarted collecting, because they are finally re-releasing classic scores, but with many tracks added. On vinyl, you usually got about 40 minutes. Now you often get over 30 minutes of extra unreleased tracks.
        Bliss!!!!
The new (classic) BSG CD not only has 30 minutes extra, but two more CDs are planned. Wow!

I write my own stories, and there is nothing better to get the juices flowing than some exciting Goldsmith scores. They're the perfect backdrop!

I collect soundtrack albums of my favourite movies, both the original vintage LP and cassette versions and also more recent CD reissues.

I like it when the reissues contain previously unreleased material, alternate takes, unused cues, etc.

            I have soundtracks for:

Batman - 1989 (the score & the Prince album)
            Waterworld
            Dragonheart
            Braveheart
            Star Wars
            LOTR Fellowship of the Ring
            LOTR The Two Towers

I have so many more that I can't think of them. I like soundtracks, especially instrumental soundtracks.

I have a massive soundtrack collection, both on vinyl and CD. If I'm not listening to Rush, I usually have a soundtrack on-- LOL. Some of my faves are; "Planet of the Apes", "Gladiator", "Aliens", "Predator", "The Fly", "Blade Runner", "Logan's Run" and "Rollerball"...

I have too many to list -- Goldsmilth, Williams, Horner. I've been listening to Silvestri's "Captain America" score a lot recently. really gets back to the heroic scores of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Superman"

And I've almost learned the lyrics to "Star-Spangled Man with a Plan"!

I used to buy soundtracks before I bought regular albums. Mostly Star Trek & Star Wars. There are some really good film/tv scores out there.

The Lord of the Rings, all 3 films. I never knew Howard Shore had it in him! He mainly does Cronenberg films. Films 1 & 3 are the best.
Back To The Future, is a mix of tunes with the real orchestra bits. Still if you like the film theme this has it pretty well condensed in 2 different tracks.
Star Trek II Wrath of Khan/III Search For Spock - I think you can't get better, complete, soundtracks of James Horner's than these. They are enjoyable nearly all the way thru. Especially STII-Side 2. James Horner doesn't use this style anymore tho.
The Rocketeer - The first 2 tracks are the best and I kind'a wished there were more like track 2 where he shows up at the air show and rescues the clown/pilot. Great version of the song Begin the Beguine.
Batman Television Soundtrack 1966, now out of print. The main theme seems to be an alternate take but The Batmobile theme on side 2 is really great. The Jokers musical cue is attributed to a character called Zelda on this album. Many sound clips of dialogue from the TV series permeate the tracks.
Original Music from The Addams Family by Vic Mizzy (TV Soundtrack), This is a really great and kooky soundtrack. Many tracks are full tunes and not just short musical cues for the characters.
BATMAN & Edward Scissorhands, Danny Elfman has done many great movie soundtracks but I think these are 2 of his best albums.
Last of the Mohicans, tho the main theme seems to repeat in nearly every track on this album but I almost never get tired of it.
Bubba Ho-Tep, why couldn't there be an extended version of the guitar solo?
Star Trek-First Contact, fresh from composing the theme for Voyager, I think Goldsmith creates the best ST Theme ever. Tho the soundtrack is bogged down with too much Borg music.
Star Trek Vol. 2, music from Amok Time and The Doomsday Machine were used over and over in the rest of the series for scenes involving action and menace.
A Charlie Brown Christmas, Vince Guarldi Trio
The Last Starfighter, this film's music is just as good as Back to the Future but many more tracks are orchestrated.
The Odd Couple, many themes you enjoyed on the TV series started here.
                  Saturday Morning Cartoons, Various Artists
Space Battleship Yamato-an excellent soundtrack album from a Japanese Anime` legend.
True Romance, the main theme is worth it alone.
Willow - has a great theme/cue. It seems wasted here on this film and doesn't come up often enough for me.
The Time Machine, (2002), the main theme takes a back seat to the Eloi theme, which repeats a lot, but still good. You can't beat the track where he travels to the not too distant future tho.

                  Latest purchase: Tron Legacy

Not an overly popular movie, but, the Soundtrack to "The Power of One" is pretty awesome.

I used to collect soundtrack LP's back in the 70's. I still have them under the bed somewhere. Must be quite a pile of them, i'll have to take a look.

Most on my soundtrack collection (around 300) is on vinyl, back from the good old days.
I still play my vinyls, as I have some pretty hard to find scores on them. When I went to the movies, they had small movie stores in both our movie theatres. They had a nice selection, and I often picked up the album after having seen a good film (or one with a good score, at least).
Import scores were really expensive here. Back in the late 70s, it wasn't rare to pay $30 for one. That wiped out my monthly hobby budget in one go.
