Steve Jobs resigns as CEO of Apple -- Engadget

I wonder what the company will be like without Steve as the boss.

I'm curious if it has to do with his health.

Any one see the play "The Agony and Ecstasy of Steve Jobs"?
Or seen Ray Kurzweil's movie Transcendent Man? Jobs fully believes in his philosophies.

Steve Jobs is to Apple what Walt Disney was to Disney. Hes the kind of front man that cant be replaced....

He's still going to chairman of the board of directors.

It's gotta be health issues. He looks too gaunt and has been looking that way for a few years. I think he has the same kind of cancer Patrick Swayze had. There are no warning signs and usually it's not caught early. Jobs knew what he was in for when they discovered it. It's too bad. This guy should get another 20 years to live the way he keeps inventing stuff.

I agree that it has something to do with his health. The past few times I've seen him on TV or on the 'net, he's looked more and more drawn and gaunt. I hope his cancer ISN'T getting worse or has spread elsewhere.

As far as Apple is concerned, I don't think this is the end of the road for the company by any stretch. I think you may see a lull in activity for a brief period (hopefully brief---I want my 3rd or 4th generation iPad, but the company will soldier on, especially with Jobs still acting as Chairman of the Board.

I wish him only good luck and hope that he can beat whatever it is he's fighting!

                Good luck, Steve!!!!

Editing this; hope none of you guys would actually think I meant to say I hoped his cancer would get worse. Dramatically bad case of fingers moving faster than brain!!!

sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

I was pretty stunned. I had just entered a poker tournament at our local casino when they flashed it on the TV. That destroyed my concentration for the night.

Apple will be fine. He's now chairman and everything else in their management structure is intact. The creative genius is mostly with them. He was the driving force and can continue to be from the board seat. I wish SJ well and hope he recovers.

It's all obviously do his health...the stepping down was not forced on him...it was his choice.

Thanks to Jobs...Apple when from almost being blown out of existence...to the most valuable company in the world...amazing...

Appears the news must have spread before the public announcement.
The Redmond giant, Microsoft appears to have taken the first stab protecting their grounds after a post-SJ era.
Seems they don't want the new era to be labeled the SJ coined term "Post-PC". LOL.
Unless MS has some form of new technology that will blow away the smartphone/tablet users then I personally don't see how MS will continue to stay on top.
I think they are "nudged" that Apple has surpassed MS in profits for this year and maybe years to come.
Hopefully SJ's philosophy of "throw money at it" and get it "done or get out" will continue on. It certainly has gotten Apple pretty far up.

I hope Steve Jobs does well, but I was growing a bit creeped out by the whole cult of personality around him. Ditto with Bill Gates, but as someone who uses Apple products and who is happy with them it just creeps me out when I meet people who truly worship Apple products and have created virtual shrines to Steve Jobs. I know this is a collector’s board and technically all of our collections are shrines of sort, but walking into an Apple store feels like I am walking into a house of worship and I’m not into that.

Also, it’s clearly about his health. Even if he lives a long life does it really do a youth oriented brand well to have a truly emaciated, bones-through-skin public face walking onstage and hosting events? It’s made me feel weird the few times I have watched him speak in the past few years and I can’t be the only one.
