They are retiring the Burger King

What happened to the original actor that had the part back in the 80's? I remember him, The Duke of Doubt, Sir Shakesalot, etc.

The commercials were goofy, but the king was cool. He would turn his magical ring half a turn, and bingo! You'd be at the local Burger King.

It interesting that the whole "weird commercial" approach was such a failure for them. They try to make these incredibly odd commercial now to get our attention as we DVR past them. You watch, maybe laugh, shake your head, but does it make you hungry? Not so much.

The Duke of Doubt still haunts my nightmares. Burger King was an out of town treat for us as kids, we were so saturated by the commercials that if we passed one on a trip we'd beg to go.

Now I have one about two minutes away, last time I ate there was for Star Trek glasses.

Makes sense now that other autocracies in the Middle East are falling as well. Would love to see folks rioting in the streets, firing AK-47s in the air and screaming “Down with the King!” and setting fire to new/creepy Burger King effigies.
