250 mil!? I can't wrap my mind around a western needing a budget that high. It's not Lone Ranger would need to be CGI heavy or anything. Horses and some western sets would cost 250 mil!? Just how much does Depp make per movie now?

maybe the failure of another masked superhero with a similiar budget scared Disney a bit?

Superhero hype had an update. It's not cancelled. It's just being reworked to lower the budget.

              Depp rules. Lone Ranger rules.

This movie will more than likely be awesome.

This is exactly the kind of movie that needs an unknown as it's lead surrounded by big names (see Superman The Movie)

I wont see it just because of Depp

Both Depp and Tom Cruise are on my NEVER WATCH list.

Now ... I could see where your going with Cruise ...
But Depp is one of Today's Greatest Actors Ever imo.

Westerns just don't make alot of cash these days in the Box Office.... I heard Cowboy & Aliens was great ... by several people ..., I just haven't had a chance to go yet..

I used to have such respect for Tim Burton, but he’s become a caricature of himself and his work. Depp is still good, but hasn’t that Jack Sparrow character forever pigeon-holed him at this point?

I want a real Native American to play Tonto...not some dude who claims he has some Native American blood somewhere...

The actor (Depp) has also surmised that he is part Native American, saying in 2011, "I guess I have some Native American [in me] somewhere down the line. My great-grandmother was quite a bit of Native American, she grew up Cherokee or maybe Creek Indian. Makes sense in terms of coming from Kentucky, which is rife with Cherokee and Creek."

Sorry, "I guess I have some" and "somewhere down the line" doesn't make you a Native American...lol.

Come on...this is bloody 2011 already...give an Indian role to a real Indian...it's not like they are taking over all the acting roles or something...lol.

I have two great Native American actors in mind who would make great Tonto's...

                          Adam Beach (Windtalkers)...

                          Rudy Youngblood (Apocalypto)...

You wouldn't want either of them to be The Lone Ranger, right?

Then why would it be OK for Depp to be Tonto then?

Another one...people are up in arms about a new Black Peter Parker (which I don't like either)...so the same should apply here.

                          ...and that's my point...

Yeah...I know the story...Johnny Depp is the cash cow and everything...but that still doesn't make it right.

Armie Hammer is not going to cut it as the leading man.

Get a great and famous bankable leading actor to play the Lone Ranger...and problem solved...
