Going to the movies is special, a nice getaway, and a great way to kill an afternoon. Playing hookie and going to the movies is such a nice thing.

Having a young kid has really curtailed my movie going. I usually only spring for it now if it's a big flashy event movie--but that's beginning to wear on me. I do like to think and watch movies that deal with real issues in an artful way, but I wait for video on those and get the most bang for my buck. But after a half dozen super hero movies this year I was thinking after Captain America, "I really need to go see something with some intellect behind it."

My older brother will tell you that he really likes sharing the big screen movie experience w/ a bunch of other people. If it's scary, screaming together, if it's suspenseful gasping together, when the good guy wins, cheering together. I think he feels it bring folks a little closer together, if only for an hour and a half.

For me, even though I have digital cable, and will see these movie eventually anyway, I really like the actual event of going to the movies, like when I was a kid. For me, it harkens back to the days we'd plan ahead, check the paper for location and times, going together as a family. I really prefer not to go alone, but I have a couple of times. If it's a film about a particular genre I'm into, like Star Trek, or POTA, then I really like picking out which shirt to wear, and if any restaurants have any premiums, in preparation and anticipation of the movie. And for some reason, I really like to go at night, (But that's hard now, b/c prices are so high).

        I guess that covers it.

I go simply because it's fun. I get forget everything during the course of the movie and just relax. Also cool for me is the experience of going to the movies hasn't changed much over the years. Today's new theaters might be more modern but come movie time how different is from the 70's or 80's. How many things can you say that about?

Same for me. Some movies need to blow me away and i need a big screen for that. We have 2 awesome movie theaters here. One i go to in Cherokee on the reservation is all state of the art and never busy.

I go to certain movies because I feel they need to be seen on a big screen (like LOTR) with good sound, etc. I also enjoy being with an audience that "feels"" the movie, laughs when appropriate, screams when it's scary, and shuts up when it's emotional.

Then I sit in the theatre, everybody is discussing their new hairdo, texting, noisily stuffing their mouth with potato chips, or just having a phone conversation.

I then vow never to go to a movie theatre again...

I only go to the movies, for popcorn films which simply needs to be seen on a big screen. The rest I simply download, and watch it in my own cinema my home.I dont watch tv at all, only news and discovery stuff, and I at least watch a film a day.

Because I love movies. My Mom was a movie goer and took my sister and I a lot on the weekend. We went to Manhattan and it added to the experience.

I go now when I get the chance and have the money because nothing beats the big screen
I go to escape the real world for two hours.... high prices and family obligations have cut into my movie time although I do go with them when we all can agree on a movie if not I take all my family members separately. Wife chick flicks, Daughter kiddie, Son action....

I go early avoid the crowds sit close to the screen get my slushie and tune out the world....

Oh and I always thought seeing a movie on DVD was a big disappointment when I wanted to see it in the theaters.....Tv may be good but you can beat the digital movies on big screens now and Oh I pick only clean movie theaters to go to if I see it's unkept I won't give them my money.....I go out of my way to find a clean theater

Like Scott, I have young kids that keep me from going to the movies much. But it is a nice treat when I get to go. I sometimes go for the fun and the spectacle, sure... but *never* mindless. I get too few chances to see a movie to blow it on something that insults your intelligence.

Besides, if I want something mindless, I can always read the comments on the Museum for free! (I kid, I kid)

It's generally to have something to do around here. The bad thing is that a lot of the recent movies are not worth the increaed ticket prices so my trips to the theater are more limited.

You know what I love is when I pay good money for a babysitter only to find I'm sitting in a theater with some jerk who dragged his 4 year old to a loud PG13 movie and they act their age the whole time. Why didn't I think of that? I could see a lot more movies if I had no sense of responsibility for my kid or consideration for the rest of the audience.
