    Time Wasters

    Make my blood boil.

Guy contacts me about 3 figures. After asking about condition, he says he'll take them and asks for my PayPal and how much shipping will be.

I give him the total and tell him to send the payment as a gift. He tells me he doesn't do the gift option with people he doesn't know and apologizes. I tell him no problem, just add .30 cents and 2.9%. (less than $1.00)

"lol...I'm going to have to pass" is his reply.

After I answer his damn question, tell other people they were sold and packed the damn things!!!!!!!!!!!

No, it was a different forum.

I have to say people here are generally good. I'm guessing because it's mostly an older crowd. Last week I sold about $250 worth of 1960s Barbie and Ken stuff. Not one deadbeat bidder out of any of them and they all paid within 2-3 days. I found that when I seller stuff popular with a younger generation (Nintendo, popular 80s lines), I'm always getting stiffed.

2 weeks ago on eBay, 3 out of the 5 buyers I had turned out to be deadbeats.

That kind of stuff does happen some times. Yeah it does suck, but whatcha gonna do?

I can understand the person maybe not wanting to do the gift option as the person would then have no recourse "should" there be any issue arise from the transaction.

On the other hand though if the person trusts you they would have just went the regular PayPal method route. The extra fees which sounds minimal to me must have turned the person completely off from making the deal all together.

I have taken pictures for some people, made deals that each party agreed to and then they just seem to disappear for whatever reasons. ??? Some times it may really be a legitimate issue occur on their end. Other times you see the same person reappear without any explanation as if nothing ever happened.

I will say though that I have had way more great dealings here in the community than the occasional isolated incident that does occur once in a blue moon.

I can understand your frustration. The best thing to do is just get over it, let it go and move on to the next happy camper. That is what I do.

The younger generation does not really surprise me any.

Sadly, I think that you will be seeing more deadbeats bidders in the near future. Some of that is also due to the bad and worsening economy. People want lots of things, but a lot of them really do not have the serious means to obtain the items they "want". More so now than ever. That and there are some out there that just do not have their priorities where they really need to be.

Some want to try and hang with the big dogs when they should really just stay on the porch.

Personally, for the little bit of extra fees; I would have just let him pay and move on. It sounds like the interested buyer lost interest after asking him to send extra paypal fees.

I have always been one to not dig my heels in over a few dollars and regret it later. Just not worth letting a transaction fall apart.

there are costs of doing business

at my business we accept credit cards & then pay a fee- people reserve rooms online we pay a commission & more fees -deposit too much cash in a month we pay the bank a fee, we pay fees for everything associated with being in business- when you sell something it costs.
