    London riots

I was wondering if any of our UK members have been affected by the rioting?

Think B.A. Where did you hide the Megos?

It is weird the stuff going on over in the UK. My ex-sister-in-law is from Birmingham and she still has family over there. I still talk to her and I spoke with her yesterday and she said that her brother (who still lives there) said the entire country feels like a powder keg.....
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Honestly, I'm not sure I get what's going on. It seems like, "There's injustice in the world; I'm going to burn down the corner barber shop, then steal a laptop." Maybe the crack dealer was shot when he shouldn't have been, but I'm not sure there is any side that deserves sympathy, apart from the common people living in fear of it spilling into their neighborhoods and having their safety put in peril by malcontents and opportunists, both criminal and political.

It would appear so. I like watching the news to stay informed of my surroundings although lately it seems to be nothing but doom and gloom.

It has little to do with the original reason, the shooting.
If you were outraged by this event, would you vent it on simple shop keepers, who are just trying to make a living, and are just as upset by the shooting?
It started with (justified) demands for an enquiry into the shooting, and then gangs of thieves just decided that this was the moment to steal and burn.
The "funniest" remark, IMO, was by a police chief who said that British police wouldn't resort to "Continental" tactics, like water cannons and such. I wonder if the 30 British police officers who were nearly beaten to death feel the same way?
I have no respect for violent thieves, so let's get "Continental" on their a**es!!!

Same thing during LA riots...They burn their OWN town. Glad the Chinese shot back to protect their stores.

I don't know if we have any investors on the boards here, but the markets have seen historical drops in the last few days. And over the past two weeks we've lost more that 2000 points on the Dow here in the US alone. That's over $2 trillion in lost investment folks. The market is up today, but the health of the world economy is horrible. Banks are having trouble trusting one another with their books. And some Asian banks have cut off credit to French banks. If our governments don't come together and learn some fiscal responsibility, these riots will only spread to other countries. People are hurting and governments are not do anything to rebuild their own infrastructures. There is too much reliance on other countries to bail each other out. The work has to come from within.

There has been rioting in my home town of Gloucester the other night, they smashed up a few shop's,set fire to rubbish bins, turned over a few cars and burnt the old college,i don't know why they are kicking off for,as this all started in london and has a knock on effect i guess. There were some talk of vigilante groups going out to protect the city last nite

Rumours were that the police may use plastic bulletts and water cannons in the capital, have not seen the news today but i think its starting to quiet down.

It seems to be like a snowball effect. A lot of people with pent-up frustration finally letting it all out, in a bad way. I feel sorry for all the "little people" who lost their cars, shops and homes.

Hey, when they say "get medieval on somebody's *ss", they mean us (Medieval) Europeans, Belgians in particular.
Julius Caesar once famously said that the Gauls (Belgians) were the bravest of all warriors!
