My family plays a lot of board games. All the classics (connect-4, monopoly, life, scrabble, yahtzee, etc.) and also some age appropriate RPG like Munchkin Zombies.

I still enjoy playing things like Monopoly (the original), Aggravation, Battleship, Risk, Stratego, Othello and Scrabble. When I'm feeling REALLY nostalgic, I'll pull out my old, but still in pretty good shape games of Gnip Gnop, Don't Break The Ice, Don't Spill The Beans and, one of my all time faves, Ker-Plunk....!

P.S. Chess and checkers make it in there, too, depending on who I'm playing with.
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

My most favorite games are Monopoly (the original), Aggravation, Battleship, Checkers and as far as card games go Uno.

It is pretty tough to find peeps to play Monopoly with as it can be such a long drawn out game. I still like it though.

That is actually a neat idea. I hope that it continues to go over really well. It would be nice to see it blossom into something much bigger around the world.

We own about 60 board games from the 1970s to modern. My wife and I both love board games and when our boys get old enough (our 5 year old is already playing some of them with us), we'll have alot of games for them to play. Family Game Night will be a reality in our house for sure.

Some of our favorites are Easy Money, Life, & Payday, but we have stuff like The Six Million Dollar Man, Titanic, Bargain Hunter, Elixir, and so many more. We even have a few we've yet to play. We built our collection by picking up most of them at Savers (a second hand department store). With very few exceptions, the games we bought there were complete, even though they were used. But we always look for games at second hand stores.

Ever since I was a kid, my parents have loved playing Aggravation. So much so that my dad started making his own boards. He'll find a nice piece of counter top or other nice wood lying around, plan it out, drill & paint the holes, and voila! We have both a 4 & 6 player Aggravation board in our house, and my dad often makes sets for friends.

Funny that you mentioned that. Believe it or not I to have a lot of games that I have picked up here and there in my many journeys to the thrift stores in search of Mego and Megoish finds.

Sadly, I have found way more board games than Mego's in my journeys. I never even really set out to collect board games. Yet I have what some may consider an over abundance of them for sure. Too bad that they could not have been Mego finds. I will not complain though.

My parents and relatives also loved playing Aggravation back in the day. I guess that is why I still like it to this day. It brings back many of memories for me as a kid of seeing marbles and dice flying around the kitchen table.

One of my fondest board game treasures as I call it is actually a tri level aggravation game that I found. Anyone remember those?

That is really cool that your Dad makes his own boards. At times I find games that are incomplete and I buy them just to use the boards "some day". You know how that is. That is another one of those "I will use it some day" projects.

I like board games a lot as well as card playing games (like Rummy, Hearts, Spades, etc.)

Scrabble is great and I love Chinese Checkers, Checkers, Risk, and most other strategy type games.

Monopoly is just ok for me. It is a long game but do enjoy it if everyone plays by the official rules. The biggest one that is overlooked most of the time but probably the most important is when someone lands on a property and doesn't buy it. It is supposed to go to auction with the highest bidder winning it. If that rule is ignored, than it isn't very strategic for me. I just buy everything and if I don't have the cash; I mortgage other properties as collateral for my buys. Just grab as much as you can, upgrade your properties as fast as possible and it is pretty easy to win. I really like Chess as well but it is almost a quasi-strategic game if that makes sense. In other words, if I go up against someone who really knows how to play; they can simply run a quick pattern of moves that they have used over and over again and beat me easily. It only gets good when you play someone at your current level of playing.

I hated board games as child, maybe because the only game we played was Sorry. I started to enjoy them with a large side of beer while in college. Now, in my 40's and no longer driving much, I love my board games and puzzles. My game closet has a nice mix of old and new, and with the exception of one gift Operation game, no batteries!
